Is there any expected release date? I was looking to buy my first e-reader and wanted a Clara HD but this new iteration seams worth the wait

Availability probably some time in September or October depending on supply. Rakuten Japan has the sleepcover date as Sept. 29 so the reader will most likely be around then too, but that could just be a placeholder date as well. Still, considering how many stores have it listed in their inventory systems at this point, it probably won't be too long now. But there's been no official announcement yet. I wonder if there's a big tradeshow coming up that they might be waiting for to make its debut. Or maybe they'll just announce when they're good and ready.

Kobo Libra 2 size
161.6 x 144.6 x 9 mm

Kobo Clara HD size
159.6 x 110 x 8.35 mm

As you can see, the sizes of the two are very similar. (IMHO), you are better off with a 7" screen.

Those sizes aren't similar at all. The Libra 2 is 1cm longer and 3.5cm wider than the Clara HD. That is at least the difference on whether or not it'll fit in some pockets.

The Clara HD is 1.5cm longer. The Libra 2 is 5.16cm wider and .65mm deeper.

That's not really all that much different. Plus the Libra 2 has a 7" screen (IMHO which makes for better reading.

I think your sense of scale is off. If the Libra 2's extra inch compared to the Clara HD isn't that much different, then the Sage's extra inch to the Libra 2 shouldn't be that much different either. Which means that by transitivity, the Sage isn't that much different from the Clara HD too, lol.

Over two inches wider is a significant difference (from about 4" to about 6"). Whether a 7" screen is worth that difference in width is a personal decision.

The Kobo site for the Clara HD says: "110 x 159.6 x 8.35 mm".

The volume is 210,306.24 vs 146,592.6

The weight is 215g vs 166g.

My Kobo Sage and Libra 2 definitely look better than my Oasis. I guess the PW5 just isn't on their level.

You could get the Libra 2, which has all the things you like (waterproofing, buttons, warm light and an excellent screen to boot, probably better than any of those three you currently use). Or do you prefer a 6'' screen?

The dimensions cannot be in the correct order because the Clara HD is longer then it is wide. Just look at the photos on Kobo's site and you'll see. It has to be 159.6 x 110 x 8.35 mm

I wasn't talking the screen size. I'm talking about the overall size of both Kobo Readers.

Funny enough, I can still read on my Nook ST with Glowlight. I think in addition to the Pearl screen, whatever Kobo did to make the Aura flush really messed with the clarity/sharpness.
what works for one. i'll buy a new Kobo only if/when i need to. each to their own.

edit. one thing i do like is at least it isn't square.

best wishes koboy
