Oh well. I seem to have picked up another eye infection Steroids hourly by day; ointment at night and an ocular injection next week.

Why is life so complex!

It's funny; when I first heard last year of getting an eye injection I was scared. Now it's just routine

I used to be afraid of needles. Then I got hypothyroidism, which meant a blood test every few months. I quickly got over it.

For me it was when I joined the Navy. After sitting there for the better part of a morning getting poked repeatedly, desensitized apathy quickly set in.

But that was just the arm. The thought of eyes still disturbs me.

I think my cat picked up some fleas during her little escapade. Both of them have bites.

Putting some flea spray on the grocery list...

I have a, usually, mild form of hay fever. Which bothers me from May until July-ish. Since it's August I thought it was time to stop with the antihistamines. That was on Wednesday. Last night I woke up itching all over. Which means my heat/sun allergy is flaring up this year.

It's not like I have it every year. Since puberty I had it only a hand full of time, the last time was the summer of 2013. But I know it's triggered by stress, and it's been a stressful year. So I shouldn't be surprised.

At first I didn't realize it might be my allergy, I though it was dry skin. So I put on some lotion. Which of course didn't work. After an hour it I realized it was my allergy and after taking the antihistamines the itching disappeared within 15 minutes.

So I'm back on Cetirizine until the weather cools down, I'll probably play it safe and take them until the end of September.

Replying to a question when your answer doesn't help. Especially when it is the first reply to the question.

I see this a lot on Amazon, but it also pops up on MR.

MR example:

Question in first post: "Did the design of the site change for anyone else?" (about goodreads)

First reply: "So long since I regularly used it I can't remember. "

There may have been rants about this before. I was debating whether to post a suggestion in the feedback forum about this.

An example that particularly irks me is when a question has budget implications: “What do you think of the Fire HD 10?” “I had a Fire once and it was terrible. Get an iPad.”

Or: “Should I get a Nia or a basic Kindle?” “Get a Libra. (Or an Oasis.) You won’t like the Nia/Kindle.”

Not only is it unhelpful, there’s a superior edge to it that’s unpleasant. It’s legitimate to say, “The resolution on the Kindle isn’t very good.” But recommendations should be in the same ballpark as far as outlay goes.

Or at least acknowledge you're out of the ball bark, e.g. "The Fire is uselessly slow compared with an iPad, but the iPad costs 20 times as much."

But that only applies if you're TRYING to be helpful. Far more often, it seems the respondent is only interested in being, as you say, superior and unpleasant.

In John F's MR example, I tend to think the MRer was just making small talk to try to be sociable. On Amazon, I think there are just some of the most clueless people on the planet participating.

To be fair, though, when I ranted about the huge volume of "I don't know" responses to Amazon questions, someone pointed out that Amazon solicits answers from customers through a direct email, and some people just feel compelled to personally reply to any email sent to them, not realizing it's true nature.

I'd bet some of those same people have sent replies like "Dear Prince, I wish I could help. Best of luck getting your fortune out of Nigeria."

That’s my take on it, too. Especially when the topic itself is more of a conversational one. Thread drift from the top, so to speak.

My response to that Goodreads thread was probably particularly unhelpful, then.

You know, it's probably a rule of thumb to stay out of the comments sections of news websites if you want to retain any faith in humanity.

News websites, YouTube...now that I think about it, I'm pretty much down to only reading comments on this forum, one or two specialty sites, and a few well-behaved subreddits.
