If you have never jailbroken your device before, and your current version is 5.14.3 or later, then you're out of luck (at least at this time).

Because all known software bugs that JB methods exploited are already fixed in 5.14.3. It's like cat and mouse. You should stop updating the firmware and hope that the new JB method will develop for your version.

Somehow there is an Admin lock on settings and Wifi... any idea how to remove that lock?

Thank you for your reply. This device really haven't JB before.I have a serial communication device, ttl-usb. I used it when I had a kwp2. It's useful to KWP2, but the new kwp4 won't be waterproof after using this method.

Only if it is older than a PW4 and has an accesible serial port or if it is already jailbroken.

You need to go back to the first post. You must follow "Post Jailbreak" section to install "Update_hotfix_watchthis_custom.bin", which will bring you back to normal mode.


# Post jailbreak

At Home, click at search bar, enter ";uzb" to enable USB storage mode in Demo Mode

----------- PC -----------
1. Connect the Kindle to a PC
2. copy .\Downloads\kindle\watchthis-jailbreak-r03\watchthis-release\Update_hotfix_watchthis_custom.bin to E:\
3. Eject

----------- Kindle -----------
At Home screen, enter ";dsts" to enter the Settings menu

... > Update Your Kindle

It will reboot back to normal mode.

Apologies for asking the bleeding obvious, but when you say this is a Software Jailbreak for any Kindle <= 5.14.2, does that include a KT3 running dinosaur firmware like 5.8.11?

So the answer to your question is obviously no.
That quoted range of firmware versions is covered with this jailbreak.
Prior to this method the older one (called "KindleBreak") covered a different range (mentioned in that topic's first post) of firmware versions:

So since your Kindle is currently using older firmware (5.8.11) in order to jailbreak it you would have to manually update to a newer firmware version of your choice (as long as it is any of those listed as supported & is available for your Kindle model) and based on the firmware you've installed then use appropriate jailbreak method (KindleBreak OR WatchThis) to jailbreak it.

I just received a newly purchased KT4W8 and want to jailbreak it. Given this unit has never been turned on I assume there is no need to factory reset it as the read-me calls for, but that I otherwise need to follow the directions. This KT4W8 will be a gift to a family member, thus I do NOT want to register it to my account.

My questions are:

How can I determine my firmware level without configuring the wifi?

If I find it is too old a release can I update it without configuring wifi or registering it?

Once I have the jailbreak installed what is the best firmware to install?

Does the jailbreak prevent Amazon forcing an update or do I need to take further action?

It should be possible to skip past (defer indefinitely) the wifi configuration.

Can I simply skip past the WiFi configuration and get to the settings screen to see the firmware version? If not, how do I get at that information?

Looking in the read-me it appears that I need firmware in the 5.13.4-5.14.2 range for my KT4 to apply the jailbreak. Given this I would guess my best bet would be to update to 5.14.2 here if necessary.

What binaries require renaming? Is there a package here to accomplish this?

I am a bit surprised that this is not a part of the jailbreak process, as I would not be surprised at some point for them to decide that clearing keys should be part of the update process.
