With all the arguing about USB cables/ports, I'll be buying the new Clare 2E purely because it has a USB-C port. I'm tired of working out which way the micro USB port goes. The Clara HD is the only frequently plugin that has does not have a USB-C port.

And, hopefully, they won't bother including a cable. I have plenty, and if I need another, I'd prefer to choose one I like.

Seems a little strange to me, if you want a USB-C port, maybe just buy a connector on Amazon.

It doesn't really matter to me which port it has, but if it is USB-C, I would prefer a cable be included.

Do you own NO USB-C devices? Unless that's so, there is no need for another cable, the compelling advantage of the format and the primary reason the EU has mandated it. Grab any usb-c and cable and connect any usb-c device, the published estimates on waste reduction make for impressive reading.

Honestly, I don't think cables should ever have been included in any sort of device. The point of standardisation is that we only need one, or maybe one in each location or something like that. Supplying a cable suggests it is not standard. If I had the chance now, I would buy cables so that the type was obvious. I would probably get different colours for each type (adding some coloured tape, if I had some, or something to the end is ugly). But, doing that now, when every product include a cable would be wasteful.

I have never understood why ereader devices did not use wireless (inductive) charging in the first place and allowing bluetooth / wifi for file exchange. In that manner the devices could be really "sealed" and made water/dust proof.

Actually the original Kobo had both usb and Bluetooth. The Bluetooth was officially for syncing with blackberrys but also accepted files from PCs

In the first place, the first eInk Reader is the Sony Reader PRS-500 and it was released in 2006. There was no wireless charging back then. So in the first place, it was impossible for the 500 to come out with wireless charging.

The other problem is that Readers are too large for easy wireless charging.

There is a thread in the Kobo forum where you can setup your Libra 2 to accept a BT page turner.

That is nonsense: I experimented with inductive charging during my education in the 60/70 era. They just were not mainstream then and are still not that common. Take a look at the telephone world. I did own once one of those Google GSMs (pre-pixel era) with contactless charging. They simply dropped it in their later models.

Well, 1) Not everyone who buys an eReader has a USB cable or the right USB cable. And 2) These things wear out. And 3) They're cheap. Why take a chance on ticking off a customer who doesn't have a cable when one can be included at a nominal price? And 4) Not everyone lives near a store that sells these so, if they don't have one, their reader can quickly turn into a door stop until they can get one shipped.
