It is loading correctly here with calibre 5.44. Were you on the latest version of the plugin? And have you restarted calibre again? Calibre doesn't actually uninstall the plugins, it will try to load it and that is probably failing. If it continues to not load, restart calibre in debug mode and look for the error loading the plugin and post that.

I've also updated to 5.44 and the KoboTouchExtended plugin is still there. I tried sending one book to my Sage and it seems to have done it's job.

Haven't we seen an issue like this in the past. For some reason both of Extended drivers have been seen not to always load after a calibre upgrade.

There was a known cause that time (an incompatible library or something along those lines). But if that was the case here, everyone else who updated Calibre would've found the plugin missing.

Could be that the version of the driver in use was too old for 5.44.

No. This was a different RANDOM issue that was never tracked down.

Same issue here with 5.44 and KoboTouchExtended. It's no longer showing as installed.

What's more, it doesn't seem to appear in the list of available plugins.

Pretty sure I was running the latest version of the plugin, prior to the 5.44 update.

I shut down Calibre and re-ran it, and KoboTouchExtended is now showing as installed.

However, when I run polish on any book, the last line of the full log states that ...

Failed to initialize plugin: 'C:\\Users\\nigel\\AppData\\Roaming\\calibre\\plug ins\\KoboTouchExtended.zip'

Haven't tried uploading any books to my Kobo yet.

I suggest you try installing it again and see how that goes. The error you posted in your next message reads like you have an older version that is not compatible with the current Calibre 5.x.

That error is fairly meaningless when doing a conversion. Some plugins do not load correctly in the conversion process, but, as they are not used, that doesn't matter.

Run calibre in debug mode and post the debug log. That should show the error when the driver is initially loaded. Hopefully we can see what is happening there.

Or, delete the plugin file. The above is where it is, so you can delete that. Then start calibre and see if you can install the driver. It should be listed in the plugins that can be installed. If you get an error installing it, post the full details of the error.

Thanks for the clarification on the bogus error when running polish.

Today I tried uploading some books to my Kobo, and that seemed to work fine.

And the debug log shows nothing untoward during loading. All plugins initialized successfully.

So in conclusion, except for that first restart following the update to 5.44, situation normal. Thanks.

Just been using this KTED after a long time absence.
I seem to remember with hyphens enabled in the driver "webkit-hyphens: auto" and
"hyphens: auto" was added to the books stylesheet.css while being transferred to the device.

I've double checked this by examining books on the device, transferred with this drive, and there's no hyphen command in the stylesheet.

The last catalog I sent to the Sage was dated 13 July, so already a 6.X version of Calibre. I built a new one today, 04 August, and when I try to send it to my Kobo Sage I get the following error message

I tried twice, with the same result.

I'm on the portable 6.2 version of Calibre, latest versions of all plugins, and I use Kobo Touch Extended to convert epubs to kepubs as I send them to the devices.

EDIT: I just sent the catalogue as an epub and it worked, so the problem seems to be with the conversion.

Additional information about the hyphenation settings being missing from the books css even though being enabled in the KTE driver.

The hyphenation.css file is only missing when the following two settings are disabled

Hyphenate files is: "ticked"
Minimum word length is: "Disabled"
Minimum characters before hyphen is: "2"
Minimum characters after hyphens is : "3"
Maximum consecutive hyphenated lines is: "Disabled"
