Why would you want the same eBook in ePub on one Kobo and KePub on another?

You could maybe program it for the specific device.

I made a slight typo. the word both should have been either. You can choose if you want the eBook to be ePub or KePub. You can program the driver as a showed.

I know - I just wanted to know the reasons for reading ePub or KePub.
My first experience is if the ebook has images inside choose KePub

If the eBook has images you may want to zoom or it has footnotes is why to go KePub. The typesetting is better with ePub.

I think this has turned into a wider discussion, all very interesting.
But for me, in the early days here I must have been unduly influenced by the pro-kepub camp.

As the OP, I'm pleased that I can now simply used Epubs with no shame, as they are clearly better suited to my needs. Thank you

Can the KoboTouchExtended driver be programmed for a specific Kobo model for KePub?

The driver passes the serial number, firmware version (in two formats) and the database version to the templates used. The serial number can be used to create collections specific to the device.

That would save @Sirtel from having to constantly enable and disable the plugins.

This is the first I've actually heard of EPUBs having an advantage over KEPUBs (other than convenience of not having to convert).

Do you have any screenshots to demonstrate how it "looks" better, or under what conditions? I have both a Clara HD and a Sage, so I guess I could do some of my own experiments with an EPUB vs KEPUB downloaded from StandardEbooks if I know what I'm looking for.

If you use the reduce spacing between words in KePub patch and turn on the options to have kerning, ligatures, and hyphenation, KePub looks not bad. But occasionally, it can have some spacing issues.

ePub can adjust the space to make smaller space between words. It has kerning, ligatures, and hyphenation.

Yes, I meant mainly word spacing issues, as I don't use hyphenation. Epub does word spacing significantly better and it's especially noticeable on a smaller screen. Plus of course ligatures and kerning, which I personally couldn't care less about.

I do notice when there's no kerning (i.e., KF8 on a Kindle).

I have a saved search that finds and comments out any word-spacing... found in the CSS. IMHO KEPUB incorrectly applies this to all SPACES, causing runtogetherwords
