I have just released version 1.15.3 of the plugin. This is an update for calibre 6/Qt6 compatibility. There should not be any other changes in the plugin. I have been using this version for a while, but had completely forgotten that I had not released it. I do not think there are any problems, but, I do not use all of the plugin, so some parts will not be as well tested as others.

As usual, calibre will announce the update in the next hour or so. If there are any problems, please report them here.

Thanks grabbed the update and restarted Calibre and the icon is back and I could sync the read status.

I have just updated the plugin to version 1.15.4. I was notified of a problem via PM with changing the reading dates in the dialogs. This release fixes that problem.

I think that should be it. I had a look through the code for other places that I might have missed and could not see any. That doesn't mean I didn't miss something.

As usual, calibre will announce the update in the next hour or so. And please report any issues seen here.

I have the 1.15.4 update with calibre 6 but the toolbar icon is still unresponsive. I have tried removing the plugin, restarting calibre, and then reinstalling it, to no avail. Where does the plugin store it's preferences/data? I would like to try manually deleting that after removing the plugin and see if I can re-add it and set it up new.

I found "Goodreads Sync.json" in /Users/<me>/Library/Preferences/calibre/plugins and moved it to the trash after removing the plugin and closing calibre, then reinstalled the plugin. Still: nothing happens when I click on the Goodreads icon on the toolbar.

That got me thinking about my network configuration. I have an app called Lockdown running, that is a tracker-blocking VPN configuration. When I disabled it and restarted calibre, the Goodreads Sync plugin began working again. Sorry for the trouble.

It should work with a proxy. I remember working on that a while ago. But, from where the error is, calibre is not getting the proxy details. If you run calibre in debug mode with the proxy enabled, it might show some more details that can be used to debug it.

@kiwidude I was wondering if I could suggest a new feature for this plugin.

When I search for books on Goodreads to link sometimes they don't come up due to the extremely verbose string that it searches for, but if I do the exact same search on Google limiting the search to the site Goodreads it finds the book.

I already modified my own copy to search Google instead and it works but I was wondering if you could add a button next to the Goodreads search that opens up a Google search.

What is the advantage? If I don't get a good match with this, I press the "Goodread search" button, look at the results and fiddle with the search until I get the match I want. Then I can drag that URL into the dialog for it to set the identifier (though I just discovered a Qt6 compatibility problem). Why is using Google better?

Of course, I rarely actually do that. What I usually do after adding a book is open the metadata editor and download the metadata from there. If that doesn't find a suitable match, then I will trim the extra rubbish from the title and try again. That usually solves it, sets the metadata to what I want plus the GR identifier for this plugin to use.

Between those to methods of getting the GR identifier, I don't see any point in using Google. What are you actually doing that would make this useful?

I used to have a custom column which did exactly this by showing a simple yes or no but I can't figure out how I did this

Preferences: add your own columns

This is where you do that step. Follow the directions for whatever plugin you ar making it for (I do not use GR, so I can't co further)

Thanks for the Help. I should have specified my question. I know how to make a column. What I dont know is what to write in the template input field in order to make it work.

I know that I used this option "Column built from other columns" but I can't remember what you have to write in the input field.
