3. Is it possible to sideload books from a tablet (apple or android?).
I wirelessly send transfer/sideload books using free “Share via HTTP” app from android to Kobo. Select book in app from stored location like cloud or device, open Kobo browser, type IP number provided by app, and hit return. To simple to even list steps. I find Calibre to be overly cluttered & unintuitive. For editing & creating SIGIL seems really well built & self explanatory. For all platforms. I use Manjaro linux.

I find the Calibre editor to be perfectly adequate for all my editing needs, but then I use most of the other Calibre functions as well. There's no better library manager out there. |

For library management, there is no alternative to Calibre. So there's no reason to ask if there is an alternative.

Me again!
Does this still work for the 4.33.19611? Calibre doesn’t recognize the database with the current OS. ☹️ Any suggestions? |

Sigh; of course it does! If EVER calibre does NOT support an updated Kobo f/w, rest assured that there will be a STICKED post here proclaiming the fact.

Sorry to disturb & for not elaborating. I’m not asking if Calibre works with the latest Kobo FW. That I’m quite sure of. I’m asking re the specifics of this thread & the workaround for people that don’t have Windows 10 because it’s not working for me & the latest Kobo FW. And I can’t update Calibre because I don’t have Windows 10. 🤷🏻*♀️

Only older Windows 10 has 32 bit version. Last Calibre for 32 bit is 5.44.0 So if PC is 64 bit and can't run Win10, then use Linux Mint 20.1 64 bit, Mate Desktop will run in under 2G RAM, possibly even 1G RAM, especially if graphics has its own RAM and you use Xfce desktop. https://www.linuxmint.com/download_all.php I sold, installed and gave training in Windows for 10 years. Used it for 25 years. |

ANYONE can download and install Windows 10. Then it needs activated Not all 64 bit computers will run Win10 either (though they all will run 64 bit Linux). Some computers have no sticker to Activate Windows because it's in the BIOS, yet sometimes the Win10 setup.exe can't find that. Boot a live Linux USB stick ANY of these commands at a Linux console will return the Activation Key if it's in the BIOS. 1: sudo hexdump -s 56 -e '"MSDM key: " /29 "%s\n"' /sys/firmware/acpi/tables/MSDM 2: sudo strings /sys/firmware/acpi/tables/MSDM 3: sudo cat /sys/firmware/acpi/tables/MSDM Write it down and use it to activate. If Setup won't run then you need to edit the boot media (can be an ISO) and add an option to run setup.exe /pkey <key> where <key is the long key in five groups of five with the dashes. Note that not all Windows 7 or 8 keys will activate Windows 10. You can try ringing your local MS activation support. Pretty much they will activate anything for free. They think they can make all their income from Web services AKA Cloud and Office 365 subs, hence Win10 mostly free and usually no issue with activation of an old MS Office (but Libre Office may suit better even on Windows). |

A possible explanation for why someone would not have Windows 10 is that they don't want Windows 10. It is, then, useless to point out that they could install Windows 10.
For me, I hate Windows 10. I am happy to use Calibre portable 5.43 on Windows 7 with my Kobo libra 2 (its firmware is not the latest but I don't see why firmware 4.33, or Calibre portable 5.44, would not work this way). Last edited by Nikoz; 07-26-2022 at 04:07 PM. |
