Do you use PocketBook Cloud? I wonder if the iOS app will support AZW3 as well (the app description does not list it, but an update 2m ago says it has 'Improved support of PDF and AZW'.

In meantime, I'm going to continue to feed it .ePub as calibre doesn't offer option for AZW3 or MOBI by default for this device.

Is there any reason to prefer AZW3 over an ePub converted from one?

• I think yes.

• AZW + AZW3 can also be sent using the "Send-To-PocketBook" service.
I can still add books to my cloud service (depending on my account)

• But everything will be revealed in time

In the tests I have done with a couple of AZW3 files, both on the PB InkPad 3 and on the PB Era, PBReader detects them but displays them in the same way as a MOBI file. That is, the book is displayed exactly the same if you send it in MOBI or AZW3 format. The difference with the previous software is that it didn't detect AZW3 files (on my InkPad X they don't appear), but the display is the same. Of course, the AZW3s I have on the Kindle (converted from an ePub) are nothing like the ones I see with PBReader. At least in the two tests I have done. Maybe someone else can provide a different experience.

(I've left an example of how the same AZW3 looks on a Kindle and a PocketBook. In contrast, ePub on a PocketBook looks exactly the same as AZW3 on a Kindle).

I haven't done a more in-depth test yet, but I believe that the .AZW3/ePUB3 file does support the "Pseudo-classes & CSS pseudo-elements " unlike .mobi.

Mobi was loosely based on HTML 3.2, and is very much less flexible and less powerful than the XHTML in ePub ebooks or the HTML5 and CCS3 in AZW3 ebooks.

Thank you for the warning. I don't know what to say, people are like that these days...

I also thank "Rob Centros" for his contribution in the article "goodereader" pointed out this fact.

Shouldn't they already work on Pocketbooks? It's just a normal epub file with the proprietary kepub spans which should just be ignored by the device.

I mainly use Caliber, but I don't have the KF8 option there. From KINDLE format only AZW3, Mobi or KFX.
(Or send me some KF8 for testing)
KF8 is the correct name for AZW3. Amazon does not use AZW3 as a format name. They use KF8.

Then you do get kerning and hyphenation. Can the line height be made smaller or is that due to the CSS of the eBook?

He also took pictures of mine that I had posted in MobileRead (back when Kobo was setting up displays in Walmarts). So this is nothing new for him. He's done it many times. MobileRead seems to his "happy hunting ground." I think even worse was when he recently took a complete post from the Nook forum and re-posted it on his own site (word for word) with another writer's name attached to it. No credit to the original poster at all.

I'm surprised my comment is still up. He must be gone for the weekend.

Their file extension is AZW3, so what does it matter what it's called? Everyone understands what AZW3 means.

e.a.

Hey John, you better tell Amazon ASAP - they didn't get that memo. You have to tell them you're right and they're wrong (you have SO MUCH practice doing that).

Here are all the books I've bought from Amazon in the last few months and downloaded to my PC. I'm sure Amazon will be aghast, ashamed and apologetic when you correct their heinous error in using the file format name that you insist they don't use.

You seem to be confusing the file format with the container name. While I do agree that JSWolf is kind of a dick about it, he's not wrong.

That's why I bolded his exact words - he said "FORMAT name" - the format is azw3
