Returning to home screen automatically

I've usually got 2 or 3 books on the go at once and switch between them during the day. Is there a way to automatically return to the home screen on waking from sleep so I can choose which book to continue reading?

Install NickelMenu. You can setup an option to go to the home screen. That works even if you cane from My Books.

Does it work from within a book. I believe that is @maddz is asking. It sounds like if they put the device down for a while, they want to be presented with the list of books in progress to be chosen from rather than just continue with the last opened book.

@maddz: The only thing I can think of is to set the automatic poweroff when sleeping. That will mean you are turning the device on instead of waking it, but, when it starts, it will show the home screen. I don't think that is a very good way to do it, but, I can't think of another way. I sort of do it, but, by using two devices. I sort of read novels on one and short stories on another. It isn't as clear-cut as that, but, it means I pickup whichever device happens to have the book/story I want at the moment.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm after - on waking from sleep, to be presented with the home screen with the list of books in progress instead of the book I was last reading. I did wonder about going back to powering down after inactivity (I used to do that on older e-readers). I suppose I could resurrect my Touch, but I suspect I'd end up not reading at all on one device.

A shutdown would take a lot longer to get back up and running as you'd have boot your Kobo every time. But with NickelMenu, you open the cover, are presented with the last book you were reading and if you want to read something different, it only takes two screen presses to go back to the home screen.

Wouldn't it be three taps? One to display the menu bar, another to show the Menu and the third to choose the option to go back to the home screen. Which is either the same number, or one more tap than doing without NickelMenu. That would be; tap to bring up the menu bar and tap the "Back to ..." option at the top. That either returns you to the home screen, or to a book list. For the latter, one more tap to get home. Of course, neither is what @maddz wants.

Yes, you are correct. It is three taps. My mistake.

It's as close to that @maddz wants as I can think of. I do think shutting down is not a solution.

I used to do that with my Touch but it was never very good as it took so long to load my library (I have a large library and most was on a 32 GB external SD card).

Anyway, I've posted to the firmware request thread.

If you opened the book from My Books, and it's set to Recent, Reading, then 2 taps. If it was from search or collections or series, then 3.
I have My Books as my home screen.

But back to home from a Book opened by Search isn't tedious, before sleep or after wake.
I'd hate it to always exit the book when put to sleep.

An option in the setting to either wake to/from last screen or homescreen would be sweet.

For what @maddz is doing, there would be no real difference between the home screen and the book list. Except that the home screen only shows four books at the top. How many taps to get back to the home screen depend on where the book was opened form. If it was the home screen, it will be two taps. If it was a book list, then it is an extra tap. If it was a search screen, it will be either one extra (if the search was started from the home screen) or two (if the search was started from elsewhere). And there will be another tap if they open the book from the details page for the book. Which is something I do frequently.

But, that isn't the point. What @maddz wants is not to have a book opened when the device wakes. They want to see the books they are currently reading and choose which to read at that point. The book list, filtered by "Reading" and sorted by "Recent" could be as good as using the home screen. The latter shows four large icons for the books with no details. The list shows five books with details and can scroll to more if needed.
