Currently reading Javier Cercas's novel, The Speed of Light.
This is a serious novel that deals with life's issues. I'm almost finished. Highly recommended. WARNING: This novel contains reflective material of a thought-provoking nature, and is not a genre novel. ![]() |

I haven’t posted in a while but I’m still reading
![]() I finished off the Vatta’s War series, just started Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson. The Way of Kings left me wanting more and had to immediately pick up the next book! Also finished The Kaiju Preservation Society on Saturday and it was a bit meh for me. Cool setting, boring characters. |

I kind of liked it. But you're right, the characters never really popped out. The main character is the only one who was somewhat memorable to me. But now, two months after I read the book, I can't name a single character in it. It was still kind of a fun read. Much like a Saturday afternoon B movie on the TV when I was young. Entertaining, but not a masterpiece. Sometimes masterpieces are horribly boring though. Many of them, actually. A quick fun romp often beats them, and is just what I need. The Kaiju Preservation Society was one such romp.

And a most enjoyable re-read it was too.
And then I read The Just City by Jo Walton. Excellent fantasy based on Plato's Republic. I'm looking forward to the next two, when/if they go on offer. Or I might just have to buy them full price! Next up: My Cousin Rachel by Daphne Du Maurier. A complete change of pace! |

I'm about to start The Housemaid by Freida McFadden. I got the suggestion from a podcast that I cannot for the life of me find again..but they recommended some (what sounded like) good books.

I've started reading A Man Called Ove (Fredrik Backman) this week. Over the weekend I finished Legends of the Chelseas Hotel (Ed Hamilton).

So, I randomly picked out The Last Goodbye by Fiona Lucas from my "random ebooks bought on sale" pile and I'm whizzing through it. Reading it almost exclusively on my phone any chance I can get - I forgot how nice it is to read on your phone
![]() This is the perfect book for it too since the chapters are super short. |

Just started Brian Flynn's first Anthony Berkeley Mystery, The Billiard Room Mystery. The yellow '4th wall' style perceptive comment pleased me, but the green made me think of Casablanca - this alone suggests that for me & Berkeley this could be "the beginning of a beautiful friendship"

![]() Psst! It’s Bathurst. At first I was confused as I thought it was a mystery series based on the Golden Age author Anthony Berkeley, but all soon became clear. |

![]() For what to read next, other than Words of Radiance I have decided to try some of the indie titles I've gotten on sale through Kobo. Starting with Exile War: The Complete Boxset by Bowen Greenwood. I am intrigued by the premise, but indie novels are hit-or-miss so we'll see if I like it enough to continue or drop it. Reading some non-fiction for a change. Chaos Witch by Jaq D. Hawkins.
One of my favourite Fantasy authors is also an occult writer and this is her latest release. Very thought provoking! |

Currently reading Sayers' "Lord Peter Views the Body", the first Wimsey shorts collection. The opening story was superb and VERY Dahl-esque, making it clear that he must have enjoyed her work

Currently reading Sayers' "Lord Peter Views the Body", the first Wimsey shorts collection. The second story was a ghastly pretentious piece that depended on, and existed solely to show off, Wimsey/Sayers' grasp of French
