I forget to tell you that the same message appears when i try to open the "output options" window in Calibre preferences menu (see image)

Were you running the 32bit version of calibre before? There have been some issues with the change-over from 32bit to 64bit. Sometimes it isn't done cleanly and the wrong executable or library gets used. If so, can you uninstall calibre and look to see if there are any 32bit version still shown in the Add/Remove programs and uninstall that. Then remove the "calibre2" directories from both "C:\Program Files" and "C:\Program Files(x86)". Then reinstall calibre.

Otherwise, please run calibre in debug mode and post the log. There might be something failing earlier that is triggering this.

I never used the 32bit version on the pc I'm using now.

Unfortunately, that didn't help. But, did you open try the conversion? The error from it is missing, but I can't think if there should be anything else as well.

No I just opened Calibre.

Unfortunately, that did not have anything helpful in it.

Looking at the code, I can see something, but, I don't understand why it isn't breaking for others.

I have attached a beta that changes how the Qt library is loaded, and removes the code that loads Qt4 if loading from the current Qt fails. It works here, but, so did the other version. Hopefully it works.

Ok I just installed your beta and something has changed.
When I click "convert book" in the main Calibre window and click to select Kepub in the convert book windows this message popup

Then if I close the message popup I can set the preferences for the conversion to kepub and if I hit OK the processing begins but the conversion fails and another error message pop up

The error has something to do with temporary folders and it seem the same I receive when sending book to my Kobo with the KoboTouchExtended plugin.
I will try to understand why this happens as moving the Temp directory location in not working.

If you need I attach the debug logfile.
Anyway thank you for your effort.

As it is a permissions problem, you could try running calibre as an administrator. If that works, then you would need to work out why you do not have permissions for the temp directory.

If it still fails, it might be a threading issue. The file might be still opened at the time the write is being done. I would have to dig back through some of the beta's last year that were done to try and solve the threading issues to see if all of the ideas were used.

Strangely it worked at the first attempt and created the kepub file (runnin as administrator).
But now it works no more.
It fails also runnin as administator.

I checked again and moved the environmental variables to drive C.
Now it works with some epub and not with others.
Sometimes trying many times (5-6) with the same book it works and create the kepub.
I will investigate.

I think that means it is the threading. Try the attached beta. That has a some code in it from earlier in the year that I think fixed these problems at the time. From memory, it only was tested in the extended driver, but, the code is common between them, so it should be OK here.

That did the trick.
Now it is perfect.

I just did a fresh reinstallation of Windows10 but I don't think this is the reason for your plugin working.
Infact the KoboTouchExtended plugin is still not working with the same threading error.

Hello there,

I have the same problem as giododa (i.e. when updating to calibre 6.1 64 bits), when trying to convert an epub through the (newly re-installed) Kepub extension I get the same error message (No module named 'PyQt4') detailed below when I click on OK...is there any prospect so as to update the Kepub extension to solve this issue ?
