FYI: in the library_about_to_change event the old database can be None, which it probably is when check library is used because there isn't a previous database. That is why you are getting the exception. You should be able to avoid it by disabling any actions that depend on that event.

After updating to calibre 6.0, I tried to use a chain I have that deletes the EPUB format then copies another format to EPUB using the Save/Restore Formats action. (I've been copying the EPUB as it was when first imported to a "SOURCE_EPUB" format, in case I mess it up while editing I can copy the original back and try again.)

calibre crashes when it gets to the Save/Restore Format step. I've attached the crash log as a text file. calibre is (obviously) up to date, Action Chains is up to date, my OS is up to date.

Hmm, it may be something that's solely a calibre issue. I tried renaming the format externally and adding it back to the book record with the green button next to the formats box in the book details and got another crash. And attempting to import the file is giving me an error.

Phew. Found some posts in the issues thread for version 6 that pointed to the dedrm plugin being the problem. Disabling that plugin fixed it for me. (Fortunately I haven't been using it for a while, so that doesn't lose any functionality for me.)

It is the DRM plugin on the Mac. Look at the calibre 6 issues thread for a discussion of the problem. But, disabling the plugin will solve the problem.

So for testing purposes I disabled all but the chain TEST as to not accidentally run the wrong one (I have this bad habit of pressing a wrong button by going to quickly )

Anyway, now I wanted to enable them again, but for some reason if I press the checkmark box nothing changes. Could this be because of the change to Calibre 6.0?

Recently (definitely after the update to calibre 6.0, but I'm not sure if it was concurrent with that) I've lost the ability to choose from the usual default icons for Action Chains. The chains that already have icons still display them, but if I modify a chain, then the icon goes away.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

Is there a way in Action Chains to just copy a specific string to the clipboard? Not a value that comes from any selected books.

I'm hoping to streamline my EPUB tweaking and copy a string I need to paste into the TagMechanic plugin in Sigil as part of the chain I have for opening a book in Sigil.

Calibre6/PyQt6 has changed the way icons are stored. They are now stored in a resource file instead of a directory. As a result, Action Chains cannot support both default and custom icons by putting them in the same directory. Only custom icons will be supported for Cablire6. I don't think it is worth the effort to bring back support for calibre default icons.

Calibre's template dialog supports text as well. Simply type whatever text you want (Using Copy To Clipboard template dialog) and it will be copied to the clipboard.

Have a look at Editor Chains and see if it helps. It can be integrated with Action Chains. Note, however, that it is not under active development.

Makes sense. Is there a way for me to pull a copy of the icons from Calibre to load as custom?

Ah ha! I think I just got intimidated by all the options in that action, so I wasn't sure if it could be that simple.

That is interesting! I shall have to look into it at some point, but right now, I have a fair amount of automation set up in Sigil. It's just the TagMechanic plugin that I wish could have saved sets of options. But it does do a nice job of searching out tags without my having to make a regex that properly accounts for the opening and closing tag syntax.

Another question: Is there a way to disable an Action Chains menu item if no book is selected? I thought maybe I could test a basic template tag like title for a value, but it seems like the template functions are hanging on to the most recently selected book, even if nothing is selected in the current view. For instance, I have an chain that calls up the metadata view for a book via Calibre Actions. Sometimes I do something beforehand that unselects the books in the view, but I forget and when I run this chain, I get an error about nothing being selected. Just hoping to avoid that.
