I try to go in smaller spurts, myself. But I fear the holiday weekend may have contributed to a lengthier binge. I have a brother-in-law who got a bit sucked in while visiting. He was looking for options for watching at home without paying for another subscription. I'll have to mention Hoopla.

I think what I like most about the show is that while, yes, it's a murder mystery, it's not always about seeing the culprit led away in cuffs. Father Brown is just as likely to help someone avoid justice (depending on the situation).

I find Gaslit to be interesting. Interesting enough to continue with it.
However, it does contain one of my newer pet peeves in movies and tv series: the unrecognizable famous actor. In this case Sean Penn, who wears so much make-up, prosthetics and a fat suit for his role that you hardly recognize him. It's the same with Jared Leto in The House of Gucci and Gary Oldman in Darkest Hour. I'm sure there are enough actors that closer resemble the people portrayed that could have played the role well. But the makers of the film just want the famous name on the poster. |

Other than the period clothing and cars, it’s really the most interesting thing about the show, its saving grace so to speak. The mysteries themselves are definitely at the silly/preposterous end of the spectrum. At that, I’m no theologian but the stories seem to have a tenuous relationship with Catholic doctrine. And surely the number of Catholics in that village in Gloucestershire is a ridiculously high percentage in a country that’s overwhelmingly C of E. It’s like a Catholic Hogsmeade.

I see there's a new spinoff starring Sister Boniface: the winemaking nun (with a PhD in Forensics science) from season one of Father Brown, but I've no idea if it's any good, nor how many seasons it might be around. Looks like at least two. Last edited by DiapDealer; 07-05-2022 at 10:33 AM. |

Just finished all series of 'Grimm'. I enjoyed it,as technically a 'cop show' but with occult/mystery elements. I also agree with earlier comments, that the main actor was not particularly strong, but a good ensemble cast made up for that.
Monroe, (and later Rosalee), Hank and Wu were all good 'supporting' characters who each brought something to the show. Sean Rennard was a typical screen 'baddie' you never knew which way he would jump on any issue, as he always had his own agenda! I am a massive fan of horror/suspense films, so this filled in a gap for me, watching one episode per day via a streaming device. |

As you reminded me of it, we're bingeing it, too--and I've been reminded about just how much I really disliked the Juliette character. I mean, what a boat anchor. The girl has a fantastic smile, I'll give her that, but my cat is a better thespian. And her character is just whingeing, constantly. We're at the bit where she's lost her memory (due to a curse/spell cast by the witch) and I seriously want to throttle her. I think we're meant to feel sorry for her, to root for her, but I keep wishing she'd pack her bags and leave, despite already knowing that she doesn't. I concur, though, that Wu, Monroe and Rosalee are terrific. Without Monroe, I never would have stuck with the show. Claire Coffee plays a pretty terrific bad girl in the first few seasons--the kind of enemy where you think "Sean, just kill her, for crying out loud!" LOL. The actor that plays Sean Renard is also top-notch. And it doesn't hurt that he's handsome, either, and for a taller woman like myself, TALL. You know, properly man-sized, rather than the Tom Cruise-sized Hollywood cadre. (I remember howls from female fans when they all learned that Russell Crowe is, shall we say, vertically-challenged?) This past week I've been rewatching Paranormal Lockdown (again). I didn't know what I was in the mood for so I decided to watch this. I'll finish the last two episodes tonight and then will start with a rewatch of Inspector Morse. I think I'll watch one episode each night and then watch an episode of something else (not sure what).

I have been re-watching Endeavor from the earliest episodes. One episode per night. I'm in season 2 now.
