lost boy lost girl by Peter Straub is $1.99 at Amazon US. Straub can be hit or miss, but when he's on, he's one of the best. After King, Straub is my favorite horror writer.

Straub has his own internal mythos with recurring characters. But each book tends to stand alone. His books don't seem to be intended as a series, though lost boy, lost girl was followed up exactly a year later by In The Night Room with similar cover design and again, Tim Underhill pops up.

A woman commits suicide for no apparent reason. A week later, her son—beautiful, troubled fifteen-year-old Mark Underhill—vanishes from the face of the earth. The estimated page count appears to be the same. Same translator listed. Different publisher. The expensive Kindle edition is a movie tie-in, apparently released to make more money during the release of the film.

I'll take the cheaper Kindle edition - if I were to buy one. Hell, who knows, I might just buy it. Has anyone here on Mobileread read this novel? Convince me to buy it!

I've seen the original, Swedish movie and saw a stage play (which was really well done). But haven't read the book yet.
