Problem moving books to a tablet
Ive been trying to move some more books from my Calibre Library on a PC to a storage card within an android tablet (Android 7) or even to the main memory of the tablet, but I keep getting error messages as below: I dont know what any of this means but so far I have upgraded Calibre to the latest version, tried several different data cables and reset Calibre setting to default. I should say that I have been using Calibre for many years without trouble and think I know what I'm doing?? I have approx 150 books in my Calibre library and around 50 on my tablet, so I have done this in the past.
Im using Windows 10 PC and can read the contents of the card and the tablet using the same cable via the Win 10 explorer - no problem. Any help much appreciated. calibre, version 5.44.0 ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device C:\r\src\src\calibre\devices\mtp\windows\content_e numeration.cpp:336:Failed to EnumObjects() of folder from device:[hr=0x80070490 wCode=0] Element not found.: o240B Traceback (most recent call last): File "calibre\gui2\device.py", line 87, in run File "calibre\gui2\device.py", line 548, in _books File "calibre\devices\mtp\driver.py", line 219, in books File "calibre\devices\mtp\driver.py", line 191, in get_driveinfo File "calibre\devices\mtp\windows\driver.py", line 271, in filesystem_cache wpd.WPDError: C:\r\src\src\calibre\devices\mtp\windows\content_e numeration.cpp:336:Failed to EnumObjects() of folder from device:[hr=0x80070490 wCode=0] Element not found.: o240B |

Connect a local folder/directory created for this to Calibre as a device. Send the books to it.
Put the storage card in PC (via USB adaptor if no card reader, they are cheap). Use the file manager (explorer) to copy your local folder/directory contents to a folder called books on the card. This WON'T work if the card is encrypted as built-in storage rather than removable portable storage. In that case plug in the tablet with card in it and ONLY have the file manager (Explorer) open (close Calibre, Media players etc) and copy the files. The issue is Android MTP. |

Look at Calibre Sync for Android it might be what you want.

Have now removed Card A from the android tablet and tried to move 1 book to the device and got the following Failure message: Any other suggestions?

I have 12k books on a 128GB SD card in a tablet running Android 7. I started having similar issues when my card got corrupted.
Try reformatting the SD card in the tablet, then redoing the device configuration in case you have a specific filename template. Make sure nothing else is trying to access the SD card on the tablet and do not disturb is set. I was having issues with notifs interrupting transfers. |

Use the wireless solution I suggested in post #5.

Calibre is unlikely to be the issue.
I have SD cards on Android 6 Phone, Android 8 eink Mars (32 G) and on Lenovo tablet Android 10 (128 G card) working with Calibre. |

Looking at the error, that is saying that when calibre tries to access something on the tablet, it is failing. It seems to be the card in the tablet. Have you tried to use Windows to access the card when the tablet is connected? Have you tried removing the card and seeing if calibre can see the tablet? Have you tested the card directly in the computer or some other device? Maybe it is failing. Or try an other card in the tablet. |

Thanks for the detailed reply. Im off on holiday tomorrow so may resort to a paper-backs for now. Unfortunately I don't have another PC to try on. Are you thinking its a firewall problem - I hadn't considered that. Calibre is NOT able to access either the built-in memory of the S2 tablet or the card. When I try to access either, this is when the error is thrown up. I can access both the tablet structure and see/access book files on the card. Its when I try to add a new book either to the main memory or the sd card that the problem arises. Furthermore I can still read books from the card - dont think I could do that if the card was corrupted?? I have a screen-shot from my PC but cant seem to attach it- will try again as an additional post |

@Rexthewolf: sometimes these problems can be fixed by rebooting both the computer and the device. By reboot I mean turn the power all the way off (not put the device to sleep), wait 30 seconds or so, then turn the power on.
Reason: the MTP handlers in both devices can get confused. Rebooting resets them. |
