Because that's what Kobo calls Dark Mode. In the message you replied to, look at the lines reading:

Code:
menu_item :<location> :Dark Mode :nickel_setting :toggle :dark_mode
Those lines invert the text screen while reading but does not invert images.

Perhaps you would want to re-read the message you responded to and quoted paying special attention to the portion that I have bolded:

This Nickel menu code when let you control both modes independently (note that switching invert mode on/off requires a rebook, with this code will call for automatically).

I'm really not sure what you are trying to say. Dark mode inverts text in an ebook but not images. It does not invert text or images anywhere else. Since I spend the vast majority of my time with my ereaders reading ebooks, that works very well for me. Invert mode inverts everything everywhere. Are you asking for a dark mode that would invert the library or home screens but leave the thumbnails in normal mode for example? For the few seconds I spend on those screens, not worth worrying about IMNSHO. I've never bothered to turn on dark mode on my Kindle so not familiar with what it does.

Did you modify the ExcludeSyncFolders setting in the Kobo eReader.conf file located in the .kobo/Kobo directory. Look under the [FeatureSettings] header for a line that reads something like:

Code:
ExcludeSyncFolders=\\.(?!kobo|adobe).*?
If the line isn't there, you will need to add the line above. If the line does not match the above line, replace it. If you use the script file to install the One Click Install package, this change will be made automatically otherwise it will need to be manually installed.

Doing it late will also cause Nickel to *delete* the offending files, so you'll essentially have to reinstall KOReader & whatever else might have been living in dot folders.

nickel menu installation

hello! I have never done coding so I am really confused, I managed to make the nickel menu appear but I have no idea how to put options in it, I tried reading KOBOeReader/.adds/nm/doc but I still don't understand how to do it, do you have any suggestions?

I have the nickel menu since firmware 4.25 ... now my son turned wifi on, so I got updated to 4.33 unwillingly.
Now it turns out, that the previously used "nickel_setting:invert" does no longer work (as stated in the nickel menu docs).

So I tried to use dark mode instead ... but get the error

Quote:
unknown setting name 'toggle' arg 'toggle:dark_mode'
Any ideas how I can bring dark-mode back to my Libra H2O?
Do I need to upgrade nickel-menu somehow?

I've tried the following config, but none of the dark-mode scenarios work
Code:
menu_item :browser :Dark mode	:nickel_setting :toggle :dark_mode
menu_item :reader :Dark mode	:nickel_setting :toggle :dark_mode
menu_item :main :Dark mode	:nickel_setting :toggle :dark_mode

menu_item :main :Dark mode1 :nickel_setting :enable :dark_mode
menu_item :main :Dark mode0 :nickel_setting :disable :dark_mode

menu_item :main	:Screeshot	:nickel_setting	:toggle	:screenshots

You will need to update your version of NickelMenu. You can download it by clicking the Download button in the first message in this thread.
