If anyone's read and enjoyed The Fireman by his son (Joe Hill) but not given his old man's work a try, it's a great opportunity to pick up on all the little things from The Stand that were sneakily referenced and echoed.

The Stand isn't a favorite of mine. But I also know I'm in the minority. I enjoyed The Tommyknockers, which even King doesn't like. So my judgements aren't to be trusted

My favorite Stephen King novel, at least. I stopped reading SK a long ago, but The Stand is the only one I'm ever tempted to reread. Anyway, I finally gave in this time and bought it.

I know for a fact that many people online older than me act like an immature pre-teen (at best), so I'm not sure being older counts for much. And I'm old enough to say that in Twitch chats and be accurate at least 95% of the time.

My stint working as sysadmin in one of the engineering departments at The University of Tennessee quickly dispelled me of any link between age/intelligence and maturity. Many, many fully tenured professors that were geniuses in their field were complete fucking morons in anything outside that field... but totally convinced they were geniuses in everything. You can't compare it to simply herding cats, it was more like herding a bunch of hungry, wet, totally pissed off cats that refused to listen to you 90% of the time.

To be fair, not all of them were that way. Several were great people and I greatly enjoyed interacting with them.
