A bit more than a year later, Missing Persons is free again at Kindle US and UK. It's not free this time at Kobo US, at least as of now, but the links below all work, so it's easy to price check.

Pardonable Lies is the third in the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear, and per SYKM, it won the 2006 Macavity Award for Best Historical Novel, and was nominated for a couple of other awards as well. It has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Quote:
In the third novel of this bestselling series, London investigator Maisie Dobbs faces grave danger as she returns to the site of her most painful WWI memories to resolve the mystery of a pilot's death.

A deathbed plea from his wife leads Sir Cecil Lawton to seek the aid of Maisie Dobbs, psychologist and investigator. As Maisie soon learns, Agnes Lawton never accepted that her aviator son was killed in the Great War, a torment that led her not only to the edge of madness but to the doors of those who practice the dark arts and commune with the spirit world. In accepting the assignment, Maisie finds her spiritual strength tested, as well as her regard for her mentor, Maurice Blanche. The mission also brings her together once again with her college friend Priscilla Evernden, who served in France and who lost three brothers to the war—one of whom, it turns out, had an intriguing connection to the missing Ralph Lawton.

Two Agatha Christie titles have dropped to $1.99 in the US.

A Caribbean Mystery, Miss Marple #9

Also note that The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (Hercule Poirot #4) entered the public domain in the US on Jan 1 of this year (pubbed in 1926, see CrimeReads article here), so you can now find it at some public domain sites, like Internet Archive, although many, like Project Gutenberg and Faded Page, don't seem to have any version uploaded yet.

As for Faded Page, Christie’s not public domain in Canada yet; that’ll be January 1, 2027 if my arithmetic’s right. But I agree with you about the larger issue, namely that PG seems awfully slow about keeping up with books entering the public domain on a yearly basis. The last time I checked, no additional P.G. Wodehouse novels had been uploaded in the past four years; there’s still nothing later than 1922 for him.

Dolphin Junction is a collection of short stories by Mick Herron. Per its blurb, it contains at least one Jackson Lamb/Slough House story and at least one Zoë Boehm story. It's part of today's UK Kindle Daily Deal at £0.99.

Spoiler:
Quote:
Mick Herron is 'Britain's finest living thriller writer' (Sunday Express) and author of the bestselling and award-winning Slough House novels. Dolphin Junction captures his trademark tension, humour, and suspense in the form of short fiction, collected here for the first time.

When a wife leaves her husband under suspicious circumstances, he sets off in search for her, unprepared for the guilty secrets he's about to drag back into the light.

A man is tempted by a luxury apartment with a top-of-the-range kitchen. But there is a heavy price to pay for this glamorous new life.

A couple go on a hike through the Derbyshire countryside, to ignore the fact their marriage is on the rocks.

And there is a peek into the past of Jackson Lamb, the boss of Slough House, as well as stories featuring the shrewd detective Zoë Boehm and her hapless partner Joe Silvermann.

Dolphin Junction displays Herron's craft for deftly plotted storytelling, dark wit, and memorable twists.

If you missed the omnibus of the fist three books in the Melissa Craig series by Betty Rowlands when it was on sale a while back, now you can grab the first title for free at Kindle US and UK.

Murder at Hawthorn Cottage, apa A Little Gentle Sleuthing
Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DP527ZW
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07DP527ZW

Spoiler:
Quote:
Meet Melissa: cat lover, caring mother… daring detective?

Melissa Craig is absolutely delighted with her new life in an old crumbling cottage, spending her days pruning the primroses and getting to know Binkie, the ginger cat next door. She only wishes she had made the move to the countryside sooner.

But when a knock at the door brings news of a shocking discovery, she suddenly finds herself thrown in to the middle of a baffling mystery: the bones of a young woman have been found in the woods just behind her new home.

Perhaps the little village of Upper Benbury is not as idyllic as it first seemed?

Strange phone calls in the night convince Melissa that the police are barking up completely the wrong tree, so she can’t resist doing a little digging of her own. From the bingo hall to the beauty salon and beyond, her search ruffles a few feathers and uncovers many of the village’s most scandalous secrets, but gets her no closer to finding the culprit…

The discovery of a tatty old photograph in a drawer is the final piece of the puzzle she needs, but as a newcomer in this close-knit community, does Melissa have what it takes to get to the bottom of this extraordinary murder mystery alone?

A joy to read! An absolutely unputdownable whodunnit for fans of Agatha Christie, P.D. James and Faith Martin.

This book was previously published as A Little Gentle Sleuthing.

The first eight of the Jason Bourne novels are 99p each in a Big Deal at amazon.co.uk today. Amazon seem to have messed up the link to the specific offer page so the link is to all the current deals. The Daily Deals haven't been updated either...

NOTE: these are the same eight novels that are in the Robert Ludlum's Bourne Collection omnibus that was reduced to £3.99 back in 2018.
  • The Bourne Identity (1980) - Robert Ludlum
  • The Bourne Supremacy (1986) - Robert Ludlum
  • The Bourne Ultimatum (1990) - Robert Ludlum
  • The Bourne Legacy (2004) - Eric Van Lustbader
  • The Bourne Betrayal (2007) - Eric Van Lustbader
  • The Bourne Sanction (2008) - Eric Van Lustbader
  • The Bourne Deception (2009) - Eric Van Lustbader

The Honourable Schoolboy, which is one of John le Carré's Smiley books, seems to go on sale about once a year in the US, but never for very long. Right now it's a Kindle US Deal of the Day at $1.99, matched at Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004RKXO02
Kindle US/Smile: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B004RKXO02
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the...le-schoolboy-2

Spoiler:
Quote:
In the second part of John le Carré's Karla Trilogy, the battle of wits between spymaster George Smiley and his Russian adversary takes on an even more dangerous dimension.

As the fall of Saigon looms, master spy George Smiley must outmaneuver his Soviet counterpart on a battlefield that neither can afford to lose.

The mole has been eliminated, but the damage wrought has brought the British Secret Service to its knees. Given the charge of the gravely compromised Circus, George Smiley embarks on a campaign to uncover what Moscow Centre most wants to hide. When the trail goes cold at a Hong Kong gold seam, Smiley dispatches Gerald Westerby to shake the money tree. A part-time operative with cover as a philandering journalist, Westerby insinuates himself into a war-torn world where allegiances—and lives—are bought and sold.

Brilliantly plotted and morally complex, The Honourable Schoolboy is the second installment of John le Carré's renowned Karla triology and a riveting portrayal of postcolonial espionage.

With an introduction by the author.

At £2.49/$3.99 in the UK/US, Them Bones is a bit more pricey than I usually post, especially for decades-old backlist. Still, it’s normally £4.99/$7.99, so these are noticeable price drops, and it’s a really fun cozy series. So here you go…

(Oh yeah, Them Bones is the first in Carolyn Haines' Sarah Booth Delaney series.)

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001PSEQ56
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/them-bones
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001PSEQ56

Spoiler:
Quote:
Meet Sarah Booth Delaney, an unconventional Southern belle whose knack for uncovering the truth is about to make her the hottest detective in Zinnia, Mississippi . . . if it doesn't make her the deadest.

No self-respecting lady would allow herself to end up in Sarah Booth’s situation. Unwed, unemployed, and over thirty, she’s flat broke and about to lose the family plantation. Not to mention being haunted by the ghost of her great-great-grandmother’s nanny, who never misses an opportunity to remind her of her sorry state—or to suggest a plan of action, like ransoming her friend’s prize pooch to raise some cash.

But soon Sarah Booth’s walk on the criminal side leads her deeper into unladylike territory, and she’s hired to solve a murder. Did gorgeous, landed Hamilton Garrett V really kill his mother twenty years ago? And if so, what is Sarah Booth doing falling for this possible murderer? When she asks one too many questions and a new corpse turns up, she is suddenly a suspect herself . . . and Sarah Booth finds that digging up the bones of the past could leave her rolling over in her grave.

Joffe Books have added another Mrs Pargeter title (by Simon Brett) to their e-published editions, and it's now on sale for £0.99.

Mrs Pargeter's Pound of Flesh, #4

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09VC6DMB9
Kindle UK/Smile: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09VC6DMB9

And if you prefer to read in order, the first three in the series aren't too badly priced either, ranging from $0.99/£0.99 to $2.99/£1.99. Here are links to the "series" webpage for the first four, which are the ones e-published by Joffe.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09RTBHSRD
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09RTBHSRD

And finally, while checking out the remainder of the series (the last four have e-book editions by Severn House, not Joffe), I noticed that Mrs Pargeter's Public Relations, which is the eighth and most recent (although not that recent, 2017) is not too badly priced at £2.84 in the UK.
