[PW4] Calibre doesn't see books transferred by KOReader
I recently jailbroke my PW4, and am having trouble getting Calibre working with books sent over via the wireless server and OPDS options within KOReader. (The non-JB approach of mobi transfer by USB cable works fine.)
I transferred some epub and mobi books from Calibre via the 3 mechanisms (USB, wireless server OPDS). If I am connected via USB cable, Calibre sees the mobi books but not the epubs. Furthermore the "on device" column is ticked only for those mobi books transferred via USB. If I connect the PW4 via wireless server, Calibre sees the device but doesn’t recognize that there are any books on it. I have done Calibre and PW4 reboots, and tried deletions of the metadata.calibre file. I haven't registered the PW4 since JB, if that makes any difference. Any tips on getting Calibre to work better with wirelessly transferred books? |

![]() First of all: Books that you get from calibre content server (using OPDS -> calibre local catalog from KOReader) cannot interact **at all** with the other methods. Now the good part: wired and wireless transfers can be made compatible as long as you follow the instructions below: The standalone way (IMHO the best way). On calibre: 1. disable Kindle device plugin. 2. Use "connect to folder" to transfer documents via usb. On KOReader: 1. setup the calibre plugin's inbox dir to the same folder where you transfer your books via cable. The mixed solution: On calibre: 1. change the device template to push books without "authors" subfolders. On KOReader: 1. setup the calibre plugin's inbox dir to the same folder where kindle device plugin send books (that should be /mnt/us or /mnt/us/documents), I don't remember. 2. Confirm "I know what i'm doing" when prompted. The prompt is here because the required step in calibre above. Do notice it is possible to use "the mixed solution" without changing device template but that will end with books stored without subfolders when sent wirelessly and with subfolders when transfered via usb. That's bad taste, not tested and could lead to undefined behaviour. Last edited by pazos; 06-10-2022 at 04:21 PM. |

I'm going to insist: the best way is disabling specific device plugins (kobo, kindle, pocketbook...) and use "connect to folder" instead.
While device plugins are the best way to interact with each brand's propietary interface in their own terms they're not the best suited for KO, which tends to like the "everything is a file" paradigm used by "connect to folder". |

Thanks, pazos, for the info. I was able to get wireless and wired transfers to be compatible.
Since the USB-micro socket on the PW4 is so terrible, having more operations that can be done untethered is something I greatly appreciate. |

NiLuJe said on another thread, "Keep in mind you *cannot* mix a SmartDevice (i.e., wireless) library root with a standard/wired/USB library root. (Basically, you can't tell two different calibre drivers to use the same library)." https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=358160 |

That's easy to answer, omin.
NiLuJe was right. And I was right too. To avoid the gory details I would point you to current documentation, where you can choose your own adventure: https://github.com/koreader/koreader...ired-libraries |
