The fact that a statement like that draws laughs from a certain subset of people does not make "it's just a joke" a valid defense. Whether you love your wife is also completely beside the point.

Instead of misogynist" you could have said his joke was "not funny," or in "poor taste," or "trite," or (in your opinion) no longer "socially acceptable." An opinion has the virtue of expressing your displeasure without insulting or making a nasty allegation. For example, Mitt Romney could have said Tulsi Gabbard was "wrong" (and why) when she criticized President Biden's actions in connection with Ukraine. Instead he called her a "traitor." His object was not to debate but to silence her with his nasty and lying allegation. Good-natured teasing between the sexes has been the fodder of humor for a long, long time. Don Rickles almost always had a segment about his wife, but no one ever questioned his love and loyalty to her. (They were married for 62 years when he died.) People really need to lighten up (or at least grow thicker skins) and stop trying to find some reason (any reason) to be offended. The "Woke's" self-righteous virtue signaling and faux indignation is beginning to get really old. And that's my opinion on this matter. And how did a thread, started to evoke a chuckle, turn in yet another "cancer-serious" one? Doesn't anyone have a sense of humor any more? Last edited by rcentros; 06-12-2022 at 07:32 PM. |

Let’s look at the language. “Misogynistic” clearly describes the joke, as the referrants were “that kind of thing” and “it”. There was no “you” at all and I explicitly did not call Jon a “misogynist”, although your punctuation implies a direct quotation. Don’t put words in my mouth, thanks. I am especially really, really tired of being accused of having been offended when I made no such comment nor is it accurate.
As for the rest of your unwarranted attack and yours actually is an attack, since you’re liberal with the word you, you seem to be restating my point that things that perhaps once were funny are no longer. Finally, and the rest of this is with my mod hat on:
Let’s not continue down this path. |

And before the whole “someone not in a marginalized group…” line gets tossed out, please note I’m not saying anyone can or can’t be offended, just that the content of the book from the OP, and indeed even the description certainly are if anything less kind to women than this thread. |

Popcorn is available to all, please help yourself. We offer every variety you can think of, and probably some you can't, or wouldn't, think to try.

Just give me some Goobers and Mild Duds, along with some popcorn dripping with butter. Oh, and a plastic/paper plate full of french fries covered with baby-puke yellow cheese. "Yuuuuummmy!" Now back to some choice scenes from the classic "From Russia With Love". Yup! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ('Computer people': Is punctuation appropriate after an emoji?) ADDED: What was that chocolate candy about the size of a quarter that had about 20 or so pieces stacked into a round tube and sold in theaters? This would be the late 1950s/early 1960s. I think some nostalgia company acquired the name, and that this former film chocolate can still be bought today over the internet. |
