Thanks for mentioning this book! I’ve started in on the intro and wanted to know how well he handles potential spoilers. His “Despite avoiding spoilers so far as possible, I don’t accept the joyless view that one can’t take pleasure in a mystery if one already knows how it ends.” is not all that reassuring to me.

Great idea. I’ll try that with my old PW as the notes display.

Oooh, I haven't thought about Hitchcock for years! I used to watch his television program religiously. I've never actually read a book by him! This must be corrected!

I'll be reading Revival soon. I'm reading Firestarter at the moment. I decided I need to keep a King book going among my multi-reads at all times until I catch up!

Not that I always like his books and would certainly DNF if I'm not getting into one, but my King tbr is a bit monstrous.

Just be aware that some of his anthologies are geared towards kids and middle school and so far I haven't found a good way to differentiate those from his murder/mayhem/crime fiction without just diving in.

Even with really FAMOUS "spoiled" mysteries like Roger Ackroyd and Curtain:Poirot's Final Case, he doesn't say whodunnit, despite making it clear he assumes readers already know

Oh, good to know! Years ago, a friend inadvertently spoiled me on Murder on the Orient Express and I've never gotten over it ... ok, I'm exaggerating a bit. But I read it and, knowing what to expect, got little enjoyment from the experience.

I'm reading slowly and only two chapters in but it's great so far ... and I finally learned why UK policemen are called bobbies; I've always been curious (though apparently not enough to google it ).

I always loved Columbo and watching the murder happen. And then watching Columbo put the pieces it together was so cool. It was fun to watch him deliberately annoy the suspects while solving the cases.

I love howdunits and I loved Columbo, but when I go in for whodunit mystery, me trying to figure out who did it is half the fun.

I enjoyed Collateral Damage by David Mack. The Star Trek novels always entertain me because I can see in my mind Picard straightening his uniform or Worf growling.

I am onto Lord Edgware Dies a Hercule Poirot novel.

Just finished up Curse of the Phoenix by Dan Willis. It's a decent start to his Arcane Irregulars series and seems to complement his Arcane Casebook series decently. I'm not expecting any regular output on it though.

An interesting historical UF murder mystery. I don't think it was very accurate depiction of the 1890s, but it was a fun quick read anyhow. Well written with a little humor. Rated C [3 stars].

Next is a highly anticipated library loan that recently became available, The Border by Robert R. McCammon.

The Border was my introduction to McCammon. I'm interested in what you think of it.

I've read several McCammon's books. Enjoyed them but they are long slower reads and I'm not always in the mood for them. The Border is a nice length.

Nice to know. I got the Delphi collection of the author's works because I always meant to try the Thorndyke novels, but I wasn't aware they were actually howdunits. I might attempt one on the weekend.
