Sorry about my redundancy in my last post. My HD 3 is closing in on three years of support. It looks like, however, that the dividing line might be the old style (bigger) readers vs the newer style (smaller) readers.

This is speculation, but depending on the weight distribution the Era could be more ergonomic than the Libra. Ergonomic is not only defined by a curved side.

But I get your point Let's wait and see, the release date is not that far away.

I'm not concerned about the curve (or lack of it). I'm more worried about the convenience of the button placement because of the way they're set on the very edge the Era.

That's a plus in my opinion. I have a very old PocketBook with this kind of buttons. They are not raised and at the same height as the screen. This makes the device actually very pleasent to hold. I never had accidental page turns.

Good to know. It's not a lot different than how the keys are set up on the bottom on their newer readers either -- so it will probably work well.

I'm looking forward to it and will definitely buy it.
As a TTS user and audiobook listener, this model is ideal for me.

As far as support is concerned, I have only seen the update coming out for 2 years, which is not entirely true. My Inkpad 3 delivery updates constantly.

The ergonomics look interesting, compared to Inkpad 3 it is not that long. The ERA could be a little lighter on the ligament, but the built-in speaker has its price.

As for the software, after the last update you can see improvements, but still the most readable I use Koreader, which works quite quickly on Inkpad.

The price is also acceptable, for me it is an interesting device that offers a lot, I will definitely buy.

Yes, apparently they have expanded their support for software updates from 2 to 3 years which is great!

According to PocketBook's product manager in Germany, Forkosigan, all PocketBook devices will get at least 3 years of software support, bestselling models considerably longer. That's splendid, as Dr. Drib might say

Link to German forum.

PocketBook now has the Era listed on their product page as "Coming Soon." Unfortunately for those who want a microSD slot, there's no mention of it in the specs.

https://pocketbook.ch/en-ch/catalog/...ketbook-era-ch

It's first firmware release will be 6.7.584. Its User Manual is here...

3 years is not much. What if the DRM implementation needs an update after 3 years and 6 months? These devices should last longer. In comparison, Kobo Touch was released in May 2011 and is still regularly receiving updates. Pocketbook, claiming to be the third largest eReader producer, should be challenged on this.

For example, "Inkpad 3" was released in 2018 (Touch Lux 2 in 2014 - last Update → 5.17.2173 = 8 years) and the updates are still coming and will be delivered so I would not see it so dramatically.

Kobo is easier to update, as older versions have essentially the same chassis without HW (CPUetc) upgrades against the Pocketbook.
Therefore, in many cases, the update for one specific device can be installed on a completely different model.

I do not disagree. But in most cases PocketBook support will be longer than that. I am also quite sure, that most of us will not wait 3 years before buying another newer and supposedly better eReader.

I had my Kobo Aura H2O for about 6 years before buying a new Reader. So yes, 3 years is not all that long.

As I said, I don't disagree. But looking around in this forum, having a reader for six years before buying another one seems to be an exception, not the rule
