Wishlist on Amazon. Several are exclusive to Amazon. Previously, I used Goodreads.

I don't have a wish list. I pick what to to read based on reviews, and current news.
For instance, I read a couple of books recently about Ernest Shackleton as a result of the discovery of the Endurance in Antarctica. I am currently reading We Own This City by Justin Fenton, the TV series of this is being broadcast at the moment. |

I mostly read library books so I keep a wishlist on Overdrive.
I also keep wishlists at the stores I shop from. Occasionally I'll scroll through to see if any of the books are on sale. |

I have a couple of different Calibre libraries to keep things separate: Novels, Reference Books, Wanted, ...
I add books I want to buy (or borrow from the library) to "Wanted". I use Calibre's "Add An Empty Book" feature and then manually type in the title, author and series. Then I download metadata and a book cover for it. The metadata usually includes a link to at least Amazon to buy the book. The Calibre "Overdrive" plug-in adds links to my local libraries where I can borrow it from (I haven't used this plug-in recently, but I assume it still includes this function). For future release books, I manually populate Calibre's "Publication Date" field with the planned release date for the book, so I know when to start looking for it. Sometimes there is no metadata available for a future release yet, and in that case I just have a Calibre-generated cover with the title and authors name. But that's good enough to keep the book on my radar screen. Also, as soon as I learn of a future release that I am interested in, I search all my Overdrive libraries to see if any of them have it listed yet. If they do, I put a hold on the book (you can do that even for books not released yet). If I later decide that I'd rather buy the book, I delete the library hold. If you catch future releases early enough, you get a good place on the waiting list and don't end up seeing "You are number 129 for 1 copy" when you create the hold after everyone else on the planet has learned of the new books release. |

Kind of in the same vein as "alternate uses for Calibre" in tracking my wish list, I also use Calibre to track some of the piano sheet music I play. I keep a PDF copy of each piece, and a URL that links to a video (typically on YouTube) of someone performing the exact version of the piece that is in the PDF. It sometimes helps in the initial learning phase for a new piece to see the music ("View PDF in Browser" in Calibre-Web) while listening to it (Click on "URL" in Calibre-Web). The built-in webserver in Calibre may provide these same features, but I use the third-party Calibre-Web personally. I set the color of the Calibre-generated book cover based on the difficulty level of the piece (beige for easy, blue for moderate, gray for difficult).

I use a directory on my PC called "comprabili" (translation "buyable") where there are printed in pdf the pages of the books I want to buy on Kobo or Amazon site. There are also music, clothing, ecc. Sometimes I use text files or spreadsheet.

I have lots of pieces of paper with lists of books to read. Sadly I often loose these lists and then rewrite them from memory. This acts as a random filter to hopefully just keep the books that I think are most interesting to me. Every blue moon I take the current (not yet lost) list and enter all the books onto my Amazon wish list.
I then usually acquire ebooks by various means and then read them on my kindle. If I really like a book then I tend to buy the physical copy. I prefer to buy books used as it just looks a bit wrong having lots of new unopened books in your bookcases though I do buy new from Amazon if they're not available used. |

I have some wishlist exclusive shelves on Goodreads, but also two wishlists on amazon. They don't match, it depends on what I'm using to find it.

My ebook wishlist is on Overdrive. As library loans come in, I remove them from the wish list. When I get the urge to see what the latest from my favorite author might be, I search on Overdrive, if I find anything, I add it to the list, OR, if I have any hold space free, I put a hold on it. Simple as that.
I do sometimes add books to my Kindle, Kobo, or Google wish lists, but truth is, I rarely use those lists. |
