WiFi on Kindle PW2 - safe?

Hi,

I am coming to you in this new world of jailbroken kindles from the "watchthis" 0-day and I love KoReader.

I have a "problem" with the wifi. KoReader cannot turn on the wifi if the airplane mode is on in the native Kindle OS.

Is it safe to turn off the airplane mode in the underlying Kindle OS and leave it like that? Won't some automatic OTA update ruin my jailbreak?

I have a PW2 - they don't get updates very often anymore, but maybe they will want to patch this latest exploit.

You've got the gist of it. (Although, last I checked, airplane mode shouldn't have an effect on us, but, then again, Kindles and Wi-Fi means that I never really looked too closely at this).

That said, on a PW2, the standard OTA blocker in the KUAL helper package might be enough (or not, it's been a few years since I've actively used a Kindle, better direct those sort of questions to the Kindle Dev forum).

I thought this was a common issue/question. Don't most people who jailbreak kindles install koreader and then want to use internet connectivity to interact with it?

You're saying that normally you'd leave the airplane mode on in the kindle os and the wifi should work inside the koreader?

I'm saying I don't remember, because it's barely ever left airplane mode

(And when it did, that was to fix Wi-Fi bugs so crippling that I doubt many people actually ever tried to use Wi-Fi at all).

I'm in the same boat, PW2 always in airplane mode so I can't use the KOReader wifi dictionary lookup, transfer files etc.

Wish I knew on a good block to keep the Kindle from updating.

Your Kindle will not update if you turn on the WiFi while using KOReader. Just remember to turn it off before you exit KOReader.
