That's one of the reasons I wanted to back it up with the rest of the files.
The stats are in the KoboReader.sqlite database. It is useful to back it up in case of something corrupting the database. But, it isn't that useful to restore the device unless you also restore all the books to the same place.

I have noticed an increase in freezes / reboots with 4.32 when the Kobo is left running for a long time. (I used to disable power off, so it was only sleeping for weeks.). I have since turned on automatic shut off, so the Kobo is rebooted at least once a day, and the experience there has been smooth.

One thing I did notice is that often, the reading time stats are not properly counted after a reboot. This has led me to wonder if the process udating reading time to the database has been the root cause of some other issues.

I never turn mine off. They're always asleep. No freezing.

I (almost) never turn mine off, but I've had a couple of spontaneous unrepeatable reboots. First one I blamed on the book until it didn't do it again when I reopened it.

I had one freeze, but at the time I was reading a book that had no chapter splits (???) so I assumed it was a problem with that. I fixed the ePub after that.

My Libra 2 (rarely turned off) freezes roughly once a month. But only the last one was on this current firmware and this time it must have sensed some issue as it rebooted itself.

As I stated in another thread, there have been no freezes here. I do not power off the devices I am reading on or using frequently.

Losing reading stats around a restart is usually related to a corrupt database. It should be checked in case. And that could explain freezes.

But, when are the freezes happening? Does the device recover? Or do you need to restart it?

I don't know. I turned off any hyphenation. It would be best to check if there is any polish hyphenation dictionary installed on the reader after this update

I reverted to 4.30 and no more freezing and crashing.

In 4.32, within an hour of reading, the device would freeze, after a few seconds, it would restart.

Are you reading ePub or KePub? Have you validated what it is you were reading to see if there are any errors? Errors are usually what cause most Reader problems (other then 4.31 and the problems that caused)

I've restarted with a brand new database... though I haven't run it through the Tools integrity check.. I'll be sure to that next. The freezes I've observed happen when reading a book, usually when turning a page. Sometimes it only pauses for a handful of seconds then becomes responsive again. Other times, if I wait long enough, it reboots itself. Usually I force the issue. It should be noted this was not happening to me very often. Maybe once a week. Just enough to be annoying, but not enough to even try narrow down conditions to reproduce.

I always use Kepub converted from epub via Calibre.

At the moment of my experience of freezes and hangs, i was reading One Shot and Gray Man. I also thought it must be the books that might be causing the problems so i opened Bad Luck and Trouble which I read when my device was still on 4.30 and had no problem and within the hour it froze (so it was not the book).

I thought it must be the patches, the nanoclock or nickelmenu and probably other books in my library, so i hard formatted my device to delete everything, then updated via wifi to 4.32 and loaded just the two books i was reading and the device still froze.

The device would restart within the minute after the froze/crash. I can also restart it by long pressing the power button.

I reverted to 4.30, and finished the Gray Man from 30% and no single freezing and crash with patches, nanoclock, and nickelmenu

BTW how does one check the database integrity on a kobo?

You can check the database integrity using Calibre with Kobo Utilities.

Have you checked those eBooks for errors?

I believe this is automatic whenever i connect my Libra 2 to Calibre and Calibre will automatically prompt an error if there is any, right?

(EDIT: I used Kobo utilities and checked database and very quickly the result is: "ok')

as for individual ebooks, i do not know how to check each one for errors

Only if you have the backup turned on. The driver will access the database, but, may not pickup any errors depending on if the problem is in a part of the database that the driver uses. The backup does a full check and will report an error if there is one.

Individual books can be checked with the calibre editor or Sigil. Both have ways to check for errors. Someone will tell you to use EPUBCheck, but that is overkill for this. If the book passes the check in the calibre editor without errors, I don't believe it will cause errors on the device.

The reboot sounds like a sickel initiated reboot. This is a process watcher that will reboot the device if a process appears to have hung. It should happen about a minute after the hang happens. There are some times when this can get triggered where the book has no errors. One is opening a very large sideloaded kepub for the first time. It might happen when turning the page to a new long chapter. Or maybe one with a lot of images. I'm not sure were things are with these in the current firmware.
