I won't switch to Linux as I like the ease of running the programs I want to run without jumping through rings (hoops are too big for Linux).

I was already mostly running programs all available on Linux. I can't remember last using WINE though I have it and a few programs such as Word 2003 on it. I exported my old 2002-2016 laptop XP as VM and have that in Virtual Box. Can't remember last time I used it. I ran Notepad++ on WINE but replaced it with KATE.
LO Office, Waterfox, Firefox, Filezilla, PuTTY, Thunderbird, KATE, Calibre, Foliate, Sigil, a more stable PDF reader than Adobe Acrobat (I'd been using 3rd party on XP since 2003), Eagle, Stellarium, Fontforge, Viber, Telegram, Signal, Skype, Zoom, Chromium, Hex Chat, Steam (but not all titles).

Mint & Mate desktop. Server 2003 based Theme. Gave up on Ubuntu years ago. Replaced server 2000 with Linux 15+ years ago. I used to use Redhat, CentOS etc for various appliances in work.

Certainly if you are using a company desktop you still need Windows for Accounts, Payroll etc unless using cloud based. For home users using only wordproccessing, spreadsheet, ebooks, web & email it makes no difference. Linux Mint with Mate works out of the box easier than Win7 or Win 10. Which I've used. I gave away two Win10 tablet/laptops. My sole Win7 game is also on Steam for Linux.

Less hoops/rings than Win10/Win11. Cheaper than a Mac.

I highly disagree about less hassle then Windows. I've been using Windows for a very long time and I've not had to go through any hoops with it.

There are people who create there own hoops by staying with Windows 7.

With this font I find myself reading in a "sing-song" (stop and go) cadence. Kind of like Walter Cronkite delivering the news, chopping words. I can't help it, I just automatically accent the bold parts and it interrupts my train of thought. But, if it works for some folks, I'm happy for them.

The hoops are only "big" for Linux if you must run Windows applications that not available on Linux. For me, after sixteen years using Linux, it's Windows that has the "big hoops." I get positively irritable when I have to work on my wife's Windows computer because nothing seems to make sense. I, personally, would never go back to Windows.

It's what you're used to. You jump through hoops in Windows without even realizing it. I most likely jump through Linux hoops without realizing it also. If you tried and stuck with Linux it would soon become second nature to you as well.

But discussion of the hassle of running Linux vs. Windows vs. Apple has nothing to do with the first post and its subject matter.

There seems to be a bit of inequality on this message board where individuals with high post counts can go off topic as they see fit but someone with a lesser count gets questioned with "What has this to do with a Kindle?" and the thread moved.

Overall eBooks are easier to deal with on Windows because some of the programs needed are not available for Linux. But yes, I agree that the hoops can depend on what you are used to.

Threads like this drift once the question is answered and there's nothing else to add. The question was answered and there's nothing left to add.

nah.

Thread drift is expected. Posting in the wrong section is not expected, especially once the mods have said so.

Don’t mind Grip they’re talking about the thread dealing with libraries in schools getting restricted and such due to content which had zilch to do with Amazon exclusively and was moved to the news forum which Grip doesn’t visit.

Unlike this thread which is taking something general and talking specifically about how to get it on a Kindle.
