Depends?

I believe jon has said in the past it is ethical as long as you delete the books after they expire.

But what if you forgot?

I obviously missed that. No doubt we will be corrected.

I don't see how you could get that inference from the quoted text. 'Your library' clearly meant 'your personal collection of ebooks, accumulated over time'.

I don't get it as well. It's nothing to do with Overdrive.

That's true too. If I add "local" it's a completely different thing.

I actually have a physical library in the house. But that is not my local library, that's owned by Limerick County (and thus I suppose everyone).

I didn't say 'your (my) library'; I said library books. But whatever, misunderstandings happen. I guess 'public library' would have been clearer. cloudLibrary/Overdrive aren't really 'local' and it's possible to borrow books from a non-local physical library as well.

If you ever decide to use public domain classics, especially the books from here (which I read lots) Calibre is useful for doing things like adding blurb to the beginning of the book. When you're deciding what to read next, read the blurb (it's normally written on the back of paperbacks) to help you choose.

Calibre can do lots of helpful little things like that, but it's not very useful for library books.

You said mostly. That means that you do sometimes by eBooks. That's why I suggested Calibre for managing the eBooks that you do purchase.

For what it's worth, I do place an empty ebook in calibre matching a public library loan. That lets me do a search later if I can't remember where I read the book from.

Thanks for any replies.
The Kobo Desktop software is only useful if you don't have a wi fii (or if it doesn't work very well as it did with some firmware for my Kobo Aura One), otherwise it is of little use.

Well, You can read Your books on Kobo Desktop but if You have a ereder it is much better to use it, and You can buy books with it but it is more comfortable buying books from the site or directly from Your Kobo.
