Baen Webscription Months for the Taking (to eligible takers)

Since I'm a buyer, it seems there's not point for Baen to offer those webscriptions to me, right? Punished for being a client.

You could have gotten your free month at the beginning same as anybody else. But if it makes you feel better, every month you buy from now on represents a chance to "double your money" by simultaneously giving it to some other sucke—ah, impressionable future Baen customer.

(As long as you do it one month per purchase and don't use PayPal. For the lowest bite of credit card fees, buy one month and then micropay for the total of the rest of the months you'll be buying. Then buy each remaining month on micropay.)

So how do I gift a webscription?

Order it as usual, using Micropay or Credit Card (NOT PayPal) to pay for it.

On the final screen before you finalize the order, there will be a box at the top for an email address and another for a personalized message to the recipient.

Note that you can only gift it to email addresses that aren't yet registered with Webscriptions—even if they've only registered and never bought anything, they're still out of luck.

If you want to give multiple months (like I did), buy the first month + enough micropay to cover the other months on your first purchase, then buy the remainder of the months out of the micropay balance. (You must buy them one at a time because you can only gift one month per individual purchase.) That way the bite the credit card company takes is smaller and Baen gets more of the money.

You can't do it once you've ordered (or claimed the freebie). That's why I advised you wait to claim it 'til you found a giftee, in the message I sent with the certificate. I guess you overlooked it; I should have sent a duplicate message via private message here. :P
