I've been away for a while, I enjoy Ed McBain's 87th Precinct books and I was wondering if there are any of his early books available somewhere as ebooks for the Kobo/Sony. I've recently read Cop Hater and Give The Boys a Great Big Hand, in dead tree format.

The early 87th Precinct ebooks are published as ebooks by Amazon's Thomas & Mercer, so they aren't available on Kobo. If you know how to strip DRM, you can buy them from Amazon and sideload them on your Kobo. That is what I do.

On the upside, they go on sale fairly often.

Often enough that myself, I don't post them anymore

@Cyclops, if you put Ed McBain as an author alert into eReaderIQ, you can get emails when the price drops on any Ed McBain title, which in practice turns out to be mostly 87th Precinct, and some Matthew Hope, and only a few of his non-series books.

A huge chunk of Catriona McPherson’s Dandy Gilver series was on sale in the UK a few weeks back, but, oddly enough, not the first two books.

Now, After the Armistice Ball, which is the first in the series, is on sale for £0.99 at Kindle UK.

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005E8740W
Kindle UK/Smile: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005E8740W

And the second in the series, The Burry Man's Day, is also reasonably priced at £1.99.

Some of the later titles in Kate Sedley's Roger the Chapman historical series have gone on sale reasonably often, but not the earlier ones. Now it seems as if Sedley may have gotten back the rights to some of the earlier titles, since the first five books are recently out (2021) in e-book editions from Canelo.

And right now, the first in the series, Death and the Chapman, is on sale for $0.99/£0.99 in the US/UK, and also discountable at Kobo (new code, "Partners22" for 40% off works).

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B099ZJ17DB
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/death-and-the-chapman
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B099ZJ17DB

The other four are also reasonably priced at £1.99 each at Kindle UK, $2.99 each at Kindle US, and $3.99 each at Kobo US. (But if you use the "Partners22" code at Kobo, they are 2.39 each, and if you have Kobo VIP, which stacks with the code, they are $2.15 each. Remember though, you have to put them one-at-a-time in the cart, and check out separately for each one, since "Partners22" is multi-use, but only once per cart.)

And here are series links for all five...

Quote:
Meet Mrs Melita Pargeter, a vivacious widow with a talent for solving mysteries.

Melita moves to a lovely new home in leafy Surrey, where her neighbours are well-to-do young couples.

But then her boiler breaks down, and she tries to get in touch with the former owners, Mr and Mrs Cotton. It turns out they have vanished without trace.

Melita is curious.

She finds out that Theresa Cotton was young, happily married (or so it seemed), and very nice in every way.

Then she discovers a letter with some shocking revelations. Nice Mrs Cotton was mixed up with some very shady characters.

Melita’s determined to piece together the mystery, but her snooping hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Does the killer now have another Mrs in his sights?

Several price drops to £2.99 at Kindle UK, which is a bit more than I like to spend for backlist, but some good books, so maybe worth it. Since this is a long list, I'm giving only Smile links - if you want a non-Smile link, just replace the "smile" in the URL with "www".

It has been three-and-a-half years since this was on sale, and this time it's for a higher price, $3.99/£2.49. But it's normally $11.99 in the US, so even $3.99 can look semi-okay compared to that

The links below are still good in the US, and here's the link for the UK.

The first book in the Sarah Hawkswood's Bradecote/Catchpoll series, Servant of Death, apa The Lord Bishop's Clerk, is on sale for £0.99 at Kindle UK right now.

This is a historical series that I had somehow missed until I received a reader's copy of the eighth book in the series, Blood Runs Thicker, a year or so ago, and really enjoyed it. I've since read a couple of others as well, and enjoyed those too. (You can see my review of Blood on my blog - the URL is in my signature.)

Spoiler:
The first Bradecote & Catchpoll medieaval mystery

June, 1143. The much-feared and hated Eudo - the Lord Bishop of Winchester's clerk - is bludgeoned to death in Pershore Abbey and laid before the altar like a penitent. A despicable man he may have been, but who had reason to kill him?

As the walls of the Abbey close in on the suspects, Serjeant Catchpoll and his new, unwanted superior, Undersheriff Hugh Bradecote must find the answer before the killer strikes again ...
