I am unable to jailbreak. after follwing the instrucions
i just get the info page about how to use your kindle

Typo, that should say "restore" not "reset"

Alright, solved!

In case anyone else is using a Mac and is new to Kindle jbreaking, here's what I did.

Opened a file directory in Terminal using Finder (Finder>Services>New Terminal at Folder), then made an empty .txt file using touch DO_FACTORY_RESTORE.txt . Then I opened up the info panel for the file and deleted the .txt from the name/extension box. Pulled that onto my Kindle, and it switched to an exec icon and said it was UNIX compatible. Then rebooted and it finally worked! Phew.

Anyway, sorry for clogging the forum, and thanks for y'all's patience. Will try again with the correct language designation this time.

Following the correct language choice, it all worked more or less along the lines of the original directions, except I never got a "misconfiguration lockout" it just kept redirecting me through the getting started menu. I'm not sure why, but the jb still appears to have worked.

This is the first you mentioned you are using a mac. The way your posts are worded I assumed microsoft, which apparently insists on an extention but only grudgingly show it if someone jumps through hoops.

To answer your question "How?",

touch DO_FACTORY_RESET

would have worked. unixlike OS do not require file "extension", the only difference between "a.txt" and "a" is the file name field in the directory is 4 characters longer. There is nothing magic about the "." and there is no "extension" field in the directory structure. Some applications parse the file name and infer information if it ends in ".txt" or whatever. Most image viewers care more about the contents of the first few bytes inside a file more than what the file name might be and

unzip bookname.epub

works just fine without having to rename it bookname.zip first.

I did it successfully in KPW5 and in KOA2. But in Koa2 I couldnt install Kual, doing the usual: copying Update_KUALBooklet_e3deabf_install.bin to mrinstaller folder and then search ;log mrpi. Is there any trick to install KUAL on KOA2 ? In KPW5 worked ok.
But in KOA2 the mrinstaller destroys the package.

Kindle Oasis crashes screen after entering password, machine cannot enter home screen. (Hold the power button for 40 - 60 seconds and restarting still doesn't work when doing factory reset) ?

My Kindle Oasis 3 (5.14.2) was jailbroken, applied the hotfix, and install the KOReader.

My question is does this jailbreak survive a firmware upgrade (5.14.3)?
