A good mask, N95, KN95, KF94, actually does quite a lot to protect both the wearer and those he’s in contact with, and a surgical mask while not quite as good still serves a purpose, although it’s harder to get a tight fit. So it’s not just a case of the wearer kidding himself. Would you want a surgeon not to wear a mask during surgery, or do you think they do it just to make the patient feel better?

AFAIC, I can avoid crowded indoor places and I can wear a quality mask. Both will do me good and should protect others if I’m carrying the virus unaware. But so far, I’m virus-free.

Doctors and nurses have the correct type of masks, and know how to wear them properly. Many average citizens don't.

Anyone with a modicum of motivation and an internet connection can obtain the correct type of masks, and learn to adjust strap length, mould the nose wire, and do a basic seal check.

Masks do make a difference. I think everyone has forgotten about social distancing though. Too bad. Doctors and nurses where surgical masks, which are the disposable ones that I buy. Not as good as N95, KN95, KF94 but it does provide some barrier compared with not wearing a mask at all. Of course, it has to be worn over the nose and mouth!

It's a bit pointless since COVID is airborne, rather than droplet-based. Good building ventilation is more important.

Where are you that doctors/nurses are not wearing N95 or similar masks? Even my vet wears an N95. Certainly my rheumatologist does.

I went to the eye doctor last week and masks were still being worn there.

Back when there was a mandate and most other people were wearing masks I often just wore a medical mask. Since masks are now optional most places, I switched to KN95. They aren't all the same - one brand I tried fit me so poorly that I could easily feel air coming through a gap under my chin. Another didn't gap but pressed my nose annoyingly (not the bridge of my nose, but lower down). I did find a brand that fits me well and is reasonably comfortable. If the first kind you try doesn't seem right it's definitely worth trying a different brand.

Yes - I have FFP2s and can get an good solid fit (successful donning seal check) by knotting the earloops a certain way. The default ones are too long. I'm thinking of looking for little adjustable toggles that fit on them, like the ones you get on better reusable masks.

Surgical masks are not N95 masks. I don't know whether surgeons and nurses in the OR have changed to the N95.

At the doctor appointments I've had since 2020, the doctors were wearing surgical masks. I specifically remember my cardiologist wearing a purple one that was just like my disposable surgical masks. I was told before I visited the knee orthopedic doctor late in 2020 that I needed to wear a surgical mask and not a cloth one for my visit. I asked them to clarify and the surgical mask is the same as the disposable ones that I buy in packages.

We have to wear masks at all medical facilities for appointments and otherwise since early pandemic. i have an eye doctor appointment next Monday and received a text today about all the precautions and to stay home if I don't feel well, and don't bring anyone with me.

I've been on the 'table' in one of Sydney's major teaching hospitals recently, once to clean and staple a wound and a couple of days later for a skin graft.

The theatre and recovery ward staff wore fitted 3M N95 cupped respirator masks, or similar, and face shields. As well as being PCR tested on admission, I was also PCR tested shortly before going to the OT on both occasions.

My GP and practice nurse wear the same masks.

I've had a few doctor visits lately. It's common practice here to call the office when you arrive in the parking lot and wait for them to tell you it's alright to enter. All personnel are masked.

Most of the doctor's offices in my area stopped that some time ago, unless you are ill, then I've heard others mention those patients are taken right back. I think my mom's doctor is spacing her appointments out more, judging by the waiting room last time I took my mom.

The only people I'm seeing with masks now are the over 65-70 crowd. Many of the men in particular wear them just over their mouths. I've been to several stores and a school program last week, and didn't see any masks at the school. Only a handful of church members at our church are still wearing them, and they still sit in the fellowship hall and watch via video streaming.
