Yeah. I read them when they were first published and loved them. I still have my battered first print paperbacks.

Then I reread the first book about a decade ago. And it didn't grab me.

But I'm really enjoying it this time.

Yeah your copy is good, but the one from Amazon themselves does need to be edited. Dunno why Amazon made it set to medium instead of book but they did. Font forge also complained it was set to 1000 em instead of something else, so clearly there’s something hinky with the file they provide it just doesn’t affect the reader in Kindle.

You say it is working fine, but there may be filesystem damage including partially written files, partially allocated blocks, partially deleted stuff, etc.

I can take a brand new thumb drive, copy one file to it using Linux, eject it and wait until it's inactive before pulling it out and every time when Windows read it, it will say the thumb drive "needs fixed" (even though it works fine). And it does this when I copy any file from any Linux computer I own. I think Windows is a "control freak" OS that doesn't see something it wants to put on that thumb drive. I just ignore the message and the transfer of files always works.

I think I did a few years ago. Maybe I'll try it again now that the weight can be changed and I'll have more choices. (I don't remember why it didn't "stick" the first time I tried it. Might not have had anything to do with weight.) I'll see if I can find it.

There is a tradition of setting the em size to 1000 for Adobe Postscript fonts and 2048 for TrueType fonts. TrueType at one time stated that font em sizes that were a power of 2 would rasterize faster. As examples, Bookerly has an em size of 1000 while Charis SIL 6.101 has an em size of 2048. Personally, I haven't noticed any real speed difference between using either of those fonts.

I envy you both. I'm also on W11, and have run into freezing issues after updating to 4.32, and even on 4.31. No freezing issues on 4.30. Looks like I'll stay on this for now. I was able to get my hands on another Kobo Libra 2 (amazon shipping issue) and it occurs on that device as well.
