Yeah, you really love to troll to the max, no one can say it isn't so.

Are there any instructions how to remove, i.e. uninstall (not bypass) nickel?

If the Kobo has an SD card, remove the SD card. If not, unsolder the ram. The Kobo won't work, but you won't have Nickel any longer.

You forgot to melt down the metal and extract the nickel for reuse... /s

On a more serious note, are you actually planning to try the things you recommend? From what I can tell, you still aren't on the latest firmware version... Also, why do you seem to be personally offended by KSM?

Ho my bad I read too fast.

Which version of KSM do you have installed ?
Because I got problem when using rcS from "update002" on a "nightmode" install : the touch didn’t worked.
I guess this has to do with the export of "mousedrive" at line 185. You can try to look there maybe.

And about the coordinates in the rcS, they seems used only for the "tap in the corner to reset" thing. And the coordinates from firmware 4.25 have different syntax so I guess this function is broken with the KMS rcS.

So, these are much safer things to do to your device then use KSM on it, especially for average users?

If I ever see someone who so much trolls as you do, I would be very, very surprised.

@Mel-kior, sorry for the late reply. I'm not using KSM right now, I switched to NickelMenu. It's slow to start, but at least I have my koreader and chess program back. It would be fun to have a quick start menu like KSM back, but I need time to look into the scripting and the new pickle coordinates.
Anyway, I used KBStartMenu_09_plus_update_001.zip and KSM09_update002.zip before updating my reader with your modifications, so yes, perhaps I ran into the same problem as you did, my screen wasn't responsive anymore.

Hello.

I ran on my Kobo Aura H2O first gen with Kobo Start Menu 09 (2018.01.05).
The official firmware install is 4.19.12123.

I see the latest version is 4.26.16704. Can I install it ?

Should I update KSM first ?

Thanks.

Cordially

It's probably a bit late, but if you keep the power button pressed for 5-10 seconds the device will force power off.

Here are instructions to reset it https://help.kobo.com/hc/en-us/artic...-Kobo-Aura-H2O

Note that an update can take a little while.

But for any future readers, I meant just stick to your working install.

Uncontrolled should normally just overwrite everything, that is, in effect disable KSM.

I used to have an Aura H20 (generation 1), and quite liked it. KSM ran on it with no problem.
So I just ordered another one (used, of course), and I just want to use it to read side-loaded books with KOReader, and so having it boot directly into KOReader seems nice. So I will install KSM again (unsupported as it may be).

Are there any advantages to using KSM 09 rather than, say KSM 08? I'm wondering because I won't be doing anything on the ereader besides using KOReader; no internet, no firmware updates, no anything else. KSM 08 seems lighter weight and easier to install, so right now I'm planning on installing that.

I doubt it matters much unless your firmware version is too new for KSM 08. Many of us were using it for years before there was a KSM 09 after all. Perhaps 08 didn't yet have built-in support for Plato?

I'm not really sure what you mean by easier to install though.

I'll be making sure that my firmware matches the installation guidelines.

I guess I overstated it, but installing KSM 09 means making sure that wifi is working (I hope to avoid wifi) and it can take longer for the update to finish (which makes me think that KSM 09 is not as lightweight).

You are better off being able to upgrade the firmware and using NickelMenu/KFM instead.

I try to avoid nickel, don't want it, don't need it. Only reason why I would go there is if/when I buy new ebook reader. But, for now, I'm more than happy with KSM9.

It works, and I don't need more than that. And I don't have to see nickel at all. I'm happy.
