Thank you for mentioning Downpour and making me aware of that site. I signed in (did not actually purchase any subscription plan yet) and bought 8 audiobooks - 6 of them only 99 cents each.

I had no trouble at all downloading their app onto my phone. The app looks great and the audiobooks sound wonderful.

Didn't work for me. It just shows the normal $9.99/mo. I last had a KU subscription in September of 2021. Oh well, thanks for posting tubemonkey.

They are, but you have to be clever if you want to get them downloaded for backups. You can only download them if you have an android device; Apple and PC need not apply. The most recent versions of the Android app have moved the files deeper on the device. That's not a problem if you have a rooted device but for normal folk that's not happening. The easiest solution is to use an older version of the app and just don't update. Once you do that getting your books is easy. If you're interested I'll walk you through it.

For a while, I'd been able to get the KU offers practically one after another; now I keep getting told, Sorry, not eligible. I think Amazon must have cracked down on eligibility.
