Good question. Maybe the Diesel version is distributed by Overdrive (not sure who Diesel uses) and that distro lowered the price while the BoB version is distributed by Mobipocket and Mobi hasn't lowered the price? Otherwise I'm not sure what the deal is?

dealers can sell for whatever price they like. Of course, they would like to make a profit, I suppose. mobi's price is publisher list and since they are a distributer also they hold that price but Dealer's are not bound. They mark up from the wholesale price.

Yes, I know. The question was more one of maybe one distributor participating in the promotion and one not. I was just throwing it out as a possible reason for the price difference between the two sellers.

FYI, Jack Kilborn is J.A. (Joe) Konrath's pseudonym. I've read a lot of Joe's work, both his Lt. Jacqueline Daniels series (Whiskey Sour, etc.), as well as his horror stuff. I think he's quite talented, and I'm stoked to start Afraid. Be warned that he doesn't shy away from blood and guts when working in the horror genre - I wouldn't classify his work as "extreme" horror, but it's certainly unflinching.

YMMV, of course.

Thanks for giving a more trustworthy opinion about the author's style!

Horror is very much my thing, but I've almost completely defected to movies because most contemporary horror fiction is badly-written crap. (Of course that also goes for a lot of the movies, but you can drink a few beers and laugh through a bad movie with friends.) The book sounded really interesting, but I got discouraged by those sketchy reviews. Of course I'm still less-than-thrilled about my beloved GoodReads getting a dose of what seems like marketing...

Diesel uses Mobi. I know this for a fact after talking to customer support about a book link which linked to the wrong book.

Ok, so I guess BoB just isn't dropping the price for some reason. It was just an idea.

Previous books in the Orbit series were also availabe for $1 from Fictionwise. Anybody know why this new one isn't available there?

I think the reason is obvious. Mobi is much more popular than PDFs. At least when we're talking about eReaders. And who spends 100s of €/$ in a eReader, can very well pay some extra for eBooks. So BoB is milking us.

I'm wondering that, too! I wanted to use some of my Micropay on it.

Not sure, but FW has a habit of only updating on Mondays so maybe it'll be reduced at that time.

Fictionwise has finally added Winterbirth for $ (less with club and rebates). The book's description page does NOT show the price (yet), just add it to your cart. No matter what it claims is available, or your preference, you MUST choose ereader format (the only format it is available in, at all, at FW, for now). Then check out - I paid 85 cents, with two rebates totaling 13 cents.

Woohoo, finally! Thanks for letting us know; I've been checking the site every few hours hoping it'd show up.

BoB solved the discrepancy in prices by... Removing the mobi version. LOL?
