Libra 2 does not wake up after being ejected from Win10
I finally upgraded from windows 7 to 10 and having an odd problem with my Libra 2. When I eject ("safely remove") from Windows 10, it does not wake up. It still shows the connected to PC screen. I have to push power button, and it goes to sleep and shows screensaver. I then push power button again and it wakes up.
But half of the time it doesn't even wake up; it just freezes and I have to reboot. It was fine on windows 7. libra 2 on latest f/w. win 10 is up to date anyone else seeing this problem? |

If you've safely ejected from Windows (windows no longer shows the usb device as connected) just disconnect the cable.

At around post number 32 I started to describe difficulties loading books onto the device; I couldn't see them after ejecting and disconnecting the Libra from the computer. PeterT made a comment which made me wonder if I was ejecting the Libra properly. I've always ejected devices by going to the hardware icon on the taskbar. This wasn't properly working for the Kobo. So I went to the Start menu (I'm using Windows 7) to My Computer > Kobo and right clicked this to select Eject. This worked. Maybe you're having a similar issue. I had to push the power button twice as well, till I saw a light flashing on the front of the Libra 2 and little dots on the screen. This isn't what we should see. Took me ages to sort it out. |

Personally, I either use the SmartEject plugin for calibre or the eject right click menu option in File Explorer. Using the eject option from the USB icon in the systray has not worked reliably for me for close to a decade. The one time I looked at what was happening (I had an oscilloscope handy and time on my hands), it seems as if the time that the power was removed from the device was not long enough when using the USB icon to trigger the device into realizing that it was disconnected. However, that eject does finish flushing any unwritten data before the attempted disconnect so simply unplugging the device allowed it to finish the disconnect.

I've never used the USB icon to eject my H2O (and not Libra 2). I do it with Calibre (mostly) or Windows Explorer.

Aha! Ejecting from explorer works. Thank you everyone, that was very helpful. One thing I like about the Kobo is you can connect and eject through software rather than physically connecting and disconnecting the cable. Very handy for testing

For the record, I use whatever method of ejecting the device that comes to hand. And the USB icon is probably the way I do it the most when I am not using calibre. I don't see any real difference. The different devices will sometimes not show they have been ejected and need to be actually unplugged before they show nickel. And I have not noticed and difference in the frequency of any issues. The main one is the annoyance that I never notice it when it happens so the device isn't ready to use when I reach for it.

One environment I've never had the device disconnect from is a Chrome Book; I can eject it from the file manager but it always requires the USB cable to be disconnected.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but i'm having a somewhat problem may be also related to this, as I just bought one myself from Forma, which was able to do such things fine without issue.
Instead of waking up however whenever I transfer books and I eject the device it begins to transfer the device then goes to sleep and says connect to power source even though it is still plugged in ( just disconnected from windows) Normaly it can transfer around 200 books before doing this so its a long proccess when I'm trying to transfer over 3,000 of them. |

It sounds like you have successfully disconnected the ereader, but it is recognising that it's still connected to a computer. Let it stay connected for a while (indexing that many books takes power) but just switch it on to continue reading. If you don't see your books on the reader after a couple of minutes, ensure that you're ejecting using windows explorer, rather than the icon on the taskbar. |

It can be a sign that there is a problem book. This can crash the import which could trigger a reboot, or just hang the process. If this is the case, finding which book is doing it could be a problem. But, unlike some others, I have no issue with the idea of importing a large number of books. I don't do it often as once the books are on the device, I only add small numbers of books at a time. But, I have put 6000+ on a new device with not issues. Well, apart from a lack of patience ![]() |

For an update, I did try quite a lot of batches, large and small( less than 20 books) with varied mixed results that made me think something is wrong with the Libra. as I also tested it with the Forma, which went through all batch's just fine..
I went through a rather large range of tests, but when some worked most of the books were corrupted, so I also downgraded the firmware thinking that could help which it didn't. My last test though, I tried turning off sleep mode and also power settings so it would just stay on, and after a dozen minutes it just shut itself off without even putting books on it so I think its issue is elsewhere and I'm just going to return it.
