I don't know if these last couple of times is the fault of this firmware or something else. But, I'm getting really tired of my Forma "forgetting" my Overdrive sign in, logging me out and then refusing to let me log back in.
It's after side-loading that I usually notice it. The Forma no longer recognizes I was signed into my Wifi. After signing into my LAN once again, I check Overdrive and it's not signed in. When I try to log in, it laughs at me. Device Information > Reapir Your Kobo Account does nothing worthwhile and I'm forced to Factory Reset it. Then I get to spend the next hour or so moving my books back over and getting my reading status in some semblance of correctness. I'm pretty sure this is the second time this week this has happened. EDIT: Kobo Utilities' Check Database function finds nothing wrong with the database. Last edited by enuddleyarbl; 03-14-2022 at 09:37 PM. |

Next time overdrive failed, I wiped out all the BookReader files and copied the backed up BookReader.sqlite file back, and that seemed to fix it. No idea (other than overdrive login) what is in this file, so I don't know how often it needs to be backed up. |

JSWolf: I've been really considering researching that firmware reversion process, but I've been holding out and waiting for Kobo to do something about this version. Who'd have thought they'd take this long. Plus, I've had these Overdrive issues since I first bought the Forma about a year ago. It's just that twice in one week seems more often than usual. |

Reverting FW:
1) Download version: https://pgaskin.net/KoboStuff/kobofirmware.html Go bottom of page and click show 2) Unzip the download 3) Connect ereader via USB (make sure at least 50% charged and on Home screen) 4) open two windows: One inside unzip folder and one inside .kobo On Mac & Linux you need to enable view hidden files/folders as a .prefix hides. 5) Copy the unzipped files into the .kobo window/folder/directory 6) Select eject/unmount etc OS command and only eject when OS says, or wait for Kobo Home screen. 7) Unplug USB, the Kobo will be rebooting. 8) Wait till it's all done and homescreen is back. Do not touch power button! 9) Do a power down & restart, then check version in settings. |

That SHOULD be true. But it wasn't on the Kobo Elipsa. The BT on/off toggle didn't work on 4.30.x till after a 2nd power off / on. (Reboot). It can't hurt and I'd not have added the step if it was never needed.

I think BookReader.sqlite is an encrypted database, separate from the main one. Probably you are successfully logging into overdrive, but then because the database that stores that is corrupt, it fails to actually save. |

The suggestion from @compurandom about the "BookReader.sqlite" file is a good one. But, it is not possible to see if it corrupted as it is encrypted and cannot be opened without the key. From my use, it should be less than 1MB in size. It contains some details about library books and books from Kobo Plus. And I think a small amount of other information. I have seen it suddenly get to be the same size as the KoboReader.sqlite. That has happened occasionally since it was added and is unrelated to the current issues. But, when it happens, I frequently find the KoboReader.sqlite is also corrupted. When I see this, I remove the BookReader.sqlite. For me, there have been no side-effects, but, I rarely borrow books. |

If rebooting fixes it, then possibly it was mounted read only. If rebooting doesn't fix it, the database is probably (still) corrupt. |

Yes, I was referring to it happening as a transient issue that is resolved upon reboot.

Not upon installation. After ejecting from the computer, sometimes the reading position stops saving. Rebooting fixes it. Since the database isn't corrupt, I think it could be explained by the partition temporarily going read-only.
