What was the last firmware update that didn't have these issues? Is there a guess if a patch is being worked on and how soon it might be released? Thanks.
You did restart your Kobo after selecting the invert screen option? For NickelMenu, the following will set the screen inversion and reboot:

Code:
menu_item :main : Invert & Reboot : nickel_setting :toggle: invert
    chain_success : power : reboot

Yes, the current firmware is very buggy.

However, you also need an updated Nickel Menu with it. Someone else can explain how to downgrade your firmware -- I've no experience with that -- but here's how to get both invert mode and dark mode working with the 4.31 firmware:

1st time after upgrading to 4.31 I needed to recharge and tried connecting with Calibre, got this error message:
Quote:
calibre, version 5.38.0
ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device

CorruptError: database disk image is malformed

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "calibre\gui2\device.py", line 87, in run

File "calibre\devices\kobo\driver.py", line 1987, in books
apsw.CorruptError: CorruptError: database disk image is malformed
That's what y'all were talkin' about, right? Part of it, anyway.

The way to prevent these problems is to roll back to 4.30 and DO NO SYNC! Keep WiFi off.

Of all sorts of problems I have with my Elipsa, the corrupted db or disk error is not happening in the new firmware.

I exclusively use the device to read KEPUB, EPUB, PDF and only take notes now on PDFs.

I use Windows 11 and make sure to Eject the device only via Calibre. I had problems in the past with the malformed disk after ejecting through Windows, so I never did it again.

Do you sideload often?

In my experience, database corruption usually happens if I re-connect too quickly after the sideload import process runs.

No I don't. I don't have thousand of books, just around 300 so I batch transfers them all to the device.

I "revived" my Elipsa this week so I connected/disconnected a few times and no problems with the unmount problem.

I don't connect/disconnect too fast. I just wait Calibre eject it and wait for the home screen to load. Before connecting I also return to home and then connect.

It is now more than 2 months we are living with this firmware and no fix, nothing. This is the 1st time I've seen a firmware this bad and no action from the company for that long.

And this, which I fully agree with, as I'm sure many others do too is probably the most depressing aspect about this firmware release. Not even a simple hotfix. Either the issue is far bigger than we realise or they (kobo) want to admit to, or they are taking a different view to side loaded files now and do see this as an issue.

It's easy for people to suggest rolling back and not turning Wi-Fi on to sync, but half my Kobo usage is reading Pocket articles, and without synching, those don't get downloaded to the device.

Or, and this is the far more likely scenario, given that no one has been able to 100% replicate the issues reliably and repeatedly it’s far harder for them to track down the actual problem.

There are patches that’ll disable upgrading OTA or ask if you want to. Not the perfect solution but it’ll keep you on 4.3 and let you sync without issues

I believe that's what davidfor said in another thread, yes.

Even if you can perfectly reproduce the conditions (specific hardware of the computer the device is being ejected from, the exact books on the device, the exact books being imported to the device, the current phase of the moon, etc etc), if that only triggers the problem 50% of the time, it's very hard to test for.
