That's not a mistake I'd ever make. Again.

Thanks I will wait then.

I think now I've got everything figured out that I want to do.

Am I missing any steps?
  1. export bookmarks table in csv (done)
  2. backup (manual copy) damaged database just in case (done)
  3. verify all books on device are matched to books in Calibre library
  4. add tag in Calibre to all books on device so I know which ones to restore just in case
  5. on device, logout then login
  6. (if necessary) send books from Calibre to device
  7. using the plugin, update the metadata of the books on the device (read dates/status, sent date, collections...)
  8. import the saved bookmarks to the table from the csv file

Thank you again for all your help, I really appreciate it.
That looks good. It should work and will safe. I think the only thing I would do is to take a full copy of the books partition before starting. That way, if something goes wrong, you can restore this and start again. I do this frequently with some of the testing I do.

Aha glad to know I'm not the only one.

Sorry for my abrupt disappearance: I got covid and was ill for a few weeks, then I had to catch up on work... this got shoved to the very end of the To Do list. But, I FINALLY got around to it just today. I wish I had done it before I got sick because in the meantime something broke further and the reading positions were not updated after December so I did lose a bit of information, but I was able to keep almost all of my reading positions, my bookmarks and annotations, my word list... and exporting / reimporting the databases went perfectly. Thanks so much for reminding me to copy the entire books partition, I would have lost some things I care about otherwise (the word list!).

I amended the steps in my previous post as a memo to myself and in case anyone else ever needs to do this, hopefully I didn't forget anything.

I do have a question: the reimported annotations are not encoded correctly, so accented letters are displayed as gibberish (in the annotations on the device; in the csv file the text is correct), is there any way to fix that? I have the saved database so if I need to re-export in a different encoding (I used UTF-8) I can do that ().
Oh, I have a second question: are the reading positions saved in a database that I could import to get the ones from the past 2 months?

Most of all I wand to say THANK YOU for your so patient help! Without your explanations, and also without your plugin, I would never have been able to do this.
