Here in Israel, the largest ebook shop (it seems to me, at least) is e-vrit (Hebrew in Hebrew transcribed to English). When you "buy" a book from these guys you can only read it using their iOS or Android App. Recently they're adding the ability to read using Chrome and only Chrome but that's still in beta.

As much as I'd like to buy local, I'm not sure the word buy describes what you get when you pay for.

Lots of authors are selling their own works directly now, but that's not the same as an independent bookstore. A local indy bookstore selling epubs would be something I'd definitely be happy to support

It doesn't really work too well though. I tried my zip-code and the site suggested bookstores that are roughly 40 km away from me. I know that there are at least 2 local bookstores that are using the Tolino infrastructure via meinebuchhandlung (use https://www.buchhandlung.de/karte/karte.html to find local bookstores that use Tolino) and at least one that is connected to Pocketbook (I don't know if they have a similar tool to find their local bookstores).

I knew them from some of the best Star Trek novels in the 90s/2000s but I didn't know they were Irish. I also thought Diane was a woman

It's a blog, not a bookshop. Lots of indy publishers or authors have their own titles direct. The Amazon links are more prominent.

Anne McCaffery also was an American living in Wicklow, Ireland, but Diane Duane has a better reason. Also there is much less prejudice about LBGQT in Ireland than Northern Ireland.

There is a scheme where if your work (each title separately) is deemed of cultural value by the Irish Tax people you pay no tax on the royalty for that title. You fill in a form for each title. For most authors in Ireland the issue is making enough money to be liable for tax at all, rather than proving the work is of Value.

She married Northern Irish author Peter Morwood in 1987; they moved to the United Kingdom and then to Ireland, where they reside in County Wicklow.

Legally due to the GFA (threatened by Brexit, hence NI Protocol) her husband is totally Irish and totally British. However the British have had to be taken to court about it, see Emma de Sousa from NI who married an American, so it's much simpler for an NI person married to an American to live in Ireland than N.I, which is still in the UK.

There's an online bookstore in the UK called hive.co.uk which sell digital and physical titles. Both sorts of sales support the local indy bookstore of your choice. I don't often buy from them because they are (a) a bit more expensive and (b) don't have much choice. Oddly, they have some titles not available from Amazon - I've picked up a bunch of Glen Cook and C J Cherryh from them.

So buy from wherever you want, then donate some money to a local shop.
If you buy someplace cheaper, you can donate the difference.

Looks like someone has figured out Adobe's "hardened" DRM. See NoDRM's GitHub, Pull Request #48. I wonder if this might spur Adobe to consider a DMCA take-down request.
