@phD: You need to enable Private Messaging. This is in the "Edit Options" of the control panel. If this isn't there, it has to be added somehow. You can try posting in https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=319819 to ask it to be enabled, or contact a moderator.

I have a kobo N289, that my computer does not recognize. It sees that something is in the USB port but cannot access the directory and tells me I need to format the drive. Would the image fix this? Could I get instructions on what to do with it? appreciate any help

That could be the books partition on the device is corrupted and does need to be formatted. I would suggest trying to do a factory reset first. But, I'm not sure how to do that for the WiFi.

But, letting Windows format the partition might work. You would need to go through the setup process afterwards, but, if it is just the partition, it probably would work. It is slightly risky as I'm not sure of some details and haven't tried it.

The image could fix things. I have sent a PM with the link. For instructions, start with Memory Upgrade Mod Guide. They are for the Glo, but the basic steps and tools are the same. It might also be good to use a new card. A failing SD card is a common cause for a lot of these issues.

Thanks for the suggestions. A factory reset did the trick, and was easy enough to find in the menu of my device. I was nervous to try it before, since some forums said that could make the reader unusable, but it worked great.

I had a useless device after an upgrade from Kobo that my unit could not see books anymore. Here are the steps I took to fix it.

David sent a 2gb working N647 image.
Used a 120gb sd card on usb cable with adapter
Running linux mint 20.3, I used the USB writer from mint to load image onto the sd card
I then started gparted and extended the partition that holds the books to maximize the book holding capacity. I now have 119gb of storage and a faster unit because of the faster sd card.
Very happy with the end result.
