Using multiple Overdrive libraries

Someone on Reddit did a comprehensive guide on how to set up the Overdrive app and your Kobo so you can easily borrow from multiple libraries and all books show up on your Kobo even though your Kobo is logged into only one of those libraries.

Yeah I posted something on this awhile back though I went into more detail and I suggest Libby over overdrive because the OD app still looks like unfinished rushed homework from a college level programming class https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...39#post3901939

Is this still going to work now that overdrive is phasing out their app this year and forcing user to use libby? On my kobo it uses overdrive to borrow books from my library.

I will guess it works on either Overdrive and Libby app. because I think the most important step in my attachment was step 7. And then always borrowing books via the app and then sync your Kobo. Don't borrow the books directly using your Kobo.

Also Overdrive is Overdrive whatever the app might be called. Overdrive creates both apps.

As noted in my linked post Libby was always the better option. I didn’t know back then why they bothered to maintain both apps since Libby was superior.

So yes this will work you just can’t use the overdrive app which you really shouldn’t have been using in the first place since it’s hot garbage.

I hadn't heard that Overdrive was being phased out. I've always used it for browsing on my phone if I'm away from my home computer.

I read mostly on my e-ink readers but occasionally read on the phone if I have a few minutes (like when waiting in a long line at the post office) and I'll use Libby for that, because I found its reading interface better than the Overdrive app.

I've never been able to find my Overdrive wishlist on Libby. ?????

It's there, you just haven't really looked. Select the stacked books icon on the bottom: then under "Shelf", tap on "tags" and select "wish list".

The only tag I found lists the 8 titles most recently borrowed

When initially opened, the Shelf appears with three gray tiles beneath it: loans, holds and tags. When tags is selected a new display pops up, titled Your Tags with sub-categories "Regular Tags" and "Smart Tags". My (yellow) wish list tile appears under "regular tags" but these can be customized to one's preference.

Ok, I found out it's possible to change the tag. I think I've got the wish list working now - fingers crossed

Hey, lesley9, the person you quoted from was responding to my thread, but I can't get it to work, either with their or MGlitch's instructions.

I am logged into the Overdrive app and website with my Overdrive account. I added all of my libraries and they show up on both. I am logged into my Kobo with my Overdrive account. But the books only show up on my Kobo if I am logged into the library from which the books are from on my Kobo, in addition to my Overdrive account. None of the other libraries books show up unless I change my Kobo to that library.

If it matters, none of the libraries seem to support the login with Overdrive account option, only the login with Library Card option. I'm not sure if this feature is being phased or what as these are among some of the biggest libraries in the US - the New York Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library and San Francisco Public Library.

Honestly, it seemed to work for me (which is why I posted) but then it didn't. But more than one person has had success so I left the instructions up. Maybe a Kobo guru will solve why it works for some and not for others.

This is not a helpful post - just my experience....

I have had constant problems with Overdrive for a few years now, usually a Kobo reset fixes it but lately it is getting worse so I have no plans at this stage to reset the device just for Overdrive.

My latest issue is that if I try to borrow a book on my KA1 (4.30.18838) the error message says try to log into your library first. I think this is to make you test your library account before calling kobo support? When i log into Libby (I have 2 cards) it does not have that book. Just realised next time I should log into the library website to double check Libby....

About a year ago I pretty much gave up on using the device to borrow books and now download from the library onto my computer then load the book onto my device.

Unrelated to this thread - But W(why)TF are there 2 apps (in my case Overdrive and Libby) to use OverDoneItdrive?
