"...question for you re photos, thanks in advance for your help.

So: I had the photos scanned (local shop, very helpful). They are now in a single file.

Can you work with the images in one file? (I have yet to figure out how to label the individual images.) OR do you prefer one image/file, labelled with image numbers?"

Self:

(What? What do you mean, they're in "one file"?) I'm thinking, okay, she means, they're in a zipped folder on her memory stick, amirite? We are meant to use these images, to put inside a memoir, a book, laid out for print.

"They scanned 40 images into a single file -- not a Word file. They named the file CUSTOMERNAME.scans.pdf."

What kind of blithering idiot thinks that's a good idea? At a scanning/print/whatever shop? I mean, what possible purpose could be achieved, best, by putting 40 damn images into ONE FREAKING PDF????????

They're idiots, but really, splitting them off into individual files isn't all that difficult. Maybe beyond your customer, but it's routine for me (though I suppose it depends on what PDF software you're using. Mine, Nitro, has a simple menu option to split a PDF file by pages.) Though I suspect it might just be a large file!

Yes, I do this sort of thing all the time, but honestly, I don't then want to have to sit there and crop them all, etc. I would bet money that they're embedded in there as pages, not as images on a PDF background page and all that. It's not my job, mon, as they used to say.

Just...I mean, it's a bloody print/scanning SHOP. What kind of maroon comes up with these crackpot ideas? When I told the client to tell them 600dpi, what were they thinking? I meant PDF pages??????

Actually, in this case, I'm fairly sure that she did. She's a smart one, the client, within her framework of experience.

Even so...let's say that the client wasn't. Right? You go into a print shop and tell them that you're using these images you have, here, in your hands, for a book. Why--in what universe--would it make sense to scan them all to a single PDF file? ????? I mean...du-uh.

I try to frequently think, "well, if I didn't know XXX, what would I do around YYYY," but in this case, I really can't see it, given that they are selling not only their technical capabilities, but their expertise, too, yes??? Almost every "print shop' today--other than copy shops, real print shops--offers some sort of fundamental print layout/book design capability, from one-more of their employees. Why didn't they ask him/her?

They did follow my requested 600dpi. That, they did. And then slapped them all into a single PDF. (smh)

Oh, gawhd, Ms. Hitch, I feel for you! Seriously, I've had to take Prednisone for a couple of gout attacks (since controlled with allopurinol), and it's not pretty. First, there's the boost of energy (and aggressiveness), with a side of a serious case of the munchies. Then, when it's time to stop, there's the hangover. They taper you off, but seriously, it's not fun. Hopefully this is a one-time thing for you and you don't need it long term. But while it's a miracle anti-inflammatory, the side effects are not pretty.

Ain't no taper this time. 7 days at massive doses and then...off.

What kills me about the eating disorder is, it makes me feel bloated and full (like, seriously, post-Thanksgiving when everything is just perfectly cooked), and ravenous at the same time. It's bloody uncomfortable.

I'm not a big eater; I'm a grazer. You know, nosh through the day, small plates, all that stuff. This "everybody out of my way, comin' through the fridge door" thing is nutty-making.

My husband take prednisone 2-3 times per year, and by the 4th day has galloping heart burn. He sure feels good the first few days. I don't think he's ever had the massive doses, just the taper method.

Oh, hells yeah, I cooked up a STORM yesterday. Was a Kitchen Wild Woman and it was hellaciously good, too, if I do say so myself. But the bloated feeling...yick. I really dislike overeating at any time, no matter what, and feeling that way when I shovel merely 3-4 forkfuls of food in and then pause, that's no bueno!

(yes, this will be my first full-tilt-boogie, no-off-ramp time. Can't wait /s.)

I feel your pain - my migraines are much more accurate for storm/pressure front predictions than the weathermen

Ditto ditto. I can't whinge about my migraines any longer--something about the reduction of hormonal interference as I aged, or the supplementation with HRT, solved a s**t-ton of that (thank freaking God...) but I have arthritis in an especially annoying place in my back that seems to affect bloody everything; in my hands (and what, exactly, do I use ALL DAY LONG for my living????) and ...

you know, that "Aging ain't for p*ssies!" stuff is dead nuts on.

That's one thing, at least, that we get in large doses from MR--a crap-ton of us are...let's say, well-seasoned. You say arthritis and you feel 100x heads nodding along with you, rather than "whassat?" :-)
