The second title in Emma Jameson's new Jemima Jago series, A Death at Candlewick Castle, is on sale for $0.99/£0.99 at Kindle US/UK. I've been a big fan of Jameson's Lord and Lady Hetheridge series, and had a chance to read a review copy of the first book in this series, A Death at Seascape House, which I also liked, although a smidge less than the Hetheridge series. So I'm happy to see the second Jago book on sale...

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B093888ZWZ

Spoiler:
Quote:
Librarian Jemima Jago is enjoying a peaceful summer in the Isles of Scilly – until a puzzling crime comes in with the tide…

Between her work in Cornwall’s oldest library and catching up with old friends over tea and chocolate biscuits, Jemima Jago is spending the season the only way she knows how: sunbathing, swimming and sailing. But her postcard-perfect summer is turned upside down when the body of well-to-do businessman Hermie Castleberry is found on the sweeping white sands at the foot of Candlewick Castle.

Jem doesn’t mean to get involved, but when her old flame Rhys Tremayne is arrested for murder, she springs into action to prove his innocence. With her gift for uncovering hard-to-find information, Jem discovers Hermie had been keeping secrets and ruffling a few feathers in the ordinarily tranquil islands. Did the quiet wife, the belittled business partner or the slimy salesman want Hermie out of the way?

The discovery of a pair of silver gloves by little dog Buck could be just the clue Jem needs to crack the case. But can she catch the real culprit, and keep her heart in check, before the killer sends her down to Davy Jones’ locker too?

A totally charming cozy mystery from the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Emma Jameson. Fans of M.C. Beaton, Faith Martin and Agatha Christie will adore A Death at Candlewick Castle.

Oh, and while checking this one out, I noticed there is a new L/L Hetheridge title out, Untrue Blue, which is the sixth one, following Blue Christmas. It's not on sale right now, but I'll be watching out for it...

The Alpine Gamble is the Gth (7th) in Mary Daheim's Emma Lord series. It's $1.99/£1.49 in the US/UK right now.

THE ALPINE ADVOCATE IS ON A ROLL.
The big story is the five million dollar luxury spa that Los Angeles real estate developers want to build around Alpine's mountainside mineral springs--hot news and fierce controversy for Advocate readers, and for the paper's editor and publisher, Emma Lord.

Pro-spa Alpiners cite the prospect of sorely needed new jobs. Those against it predict glitz, sleaze, and an avalanche of "Californicators." No one foresees the murder that shocks the town. Aided by her House & Home editor, Vida Runkel, and tongue-tied Sheriff Milo Dodge, Emma lines up her biggest, blackest headlines and goes hunting--for a brilliant killer and the strange story behind an almost perfect crime. . . .

Bloodline is the second in Felix Francis' continuation of his father's horse-themed mysteries. I've liked most of these continuation books, so happy to see this one on sale at £1.99 in the UK.

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008NBQYBW
Kindle UK/Smile: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008NBQYBW

Spoiler:
Quote:
Bloodline is the new Dick Francis novel from bestseller, Felix Francis.

When Mark Shillingford commentates on a race in which his twin sister Clare, an accomplished and successful jockey, comes in third, he can't help but be suspicious. As a professional race-caller, he knows she should have won. Did she lose on purpose? Was the race fixed? Why on earth would she do something so out of character?

That night, Mark confronts Clare with his suspicions, but she storms off after an explosive argument. It's the last time Mark sees her alive. Hours later, Clare jumps to her death from the balcony of a London hotel . . . or so it seems.

Devastated by her death, and almost overcome with guilt, Mark goes in search of answers. What led Clare to take her own life?

Or was it not suicide at all . . .?

Felix Francis is the younger son of thriller-writing legend, Dick Francis, with whom he co-wrote the four most recent Dick Francis Novels, Dead Heat, Silks, Even Money and Crossfire, with Felix taking an increasingly greater role in the writing. Sadly Dick died in February 2010 but his work will live on through Felix. Gamble was Felix's first solo Dick Francis Novel.

I read a bunch of HRF Keating's Inspector Ghote books back in DTB days, and really liked them. But although Keating's Harriet Martens series, and some of his non-series titles, go on sale reasonably often, his Ghote books rarely do - and are really expensive normally in the US at least. So I'm thrilled to see the first Ghote title, The Perfect Murder, go on sale in the UK for £1.99. This is one of the few that I bought before doing the post, just to make sure I didn't miss it . Hopefully this is the start of something...

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004TRQA8Q
Kindle UK/Smile: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004TRQA8Q

Spoiler:
Quote:
In the house of Lala Varde, a vast man of even greater influence, an attack has taken place. Varde's secretary, Mr Perfect, has been struck on his invaluable business head. And try as Inspector Ghote might to remain conscientious and methodical, his investigation is beset on all sides by cunning, disdain and corruption. And then there's the impossible theft of a single rupee to be dealt with . . .

The Perfect Murder introduced Inspector Ghote: Bombay CID's most dutiful officer, and one of the greatest, most engaging creations in all detective fiction.

Maigret's Mistake is about 2/3 of the way through Georges Simenon's Maigret series. It has dropped to £2.99 at Kindle UK.

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZ87A08
Kindle UK/Smile: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZ87A08

Spoiler:
Quote:
'Maigret had questioned thousands, tens of thousands of people in the course of his career, some occupying important positions, others who were more famous for their wealth, and others still who were considered the most intelligent of international criminals.

Yet he attached an importance to this interrogation he had attached to no previous interrogation, and it wasn't Gouin's social position that overawed him, or his worldwide fame.'

'One of the greatest writers of the twentieth century . . . Simenon was unequalled at making us look inside, though the ability was masked by his brilliance at absorbing us obsessively in his stories' Guardian

Blackshirt Meets the Lady is the sixth in the Blackshirt series by Roderic Jeffries (written as Roderic Graeme). It is free right now at Kindle US and UK.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078TLM7GC
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B078TLM7GC

Spoiler:
Quote:
Though he isn’t susceptible to boredom Richard Verrell likes life at its most eventful.

And when he reads about Chibodia in his morning paper he experiences a glow of excitement. Why should Verrell—alias Blackshirt—concern himself with the affairs of a remote republic in Central America? What is the significance of the arrest of Robin Treymoine, a Foreign Office official, charged with stealing seventy-five pounds from the Chibodian Embassy? And what lies behind the extravagant gift which Chibodia proposes to present to the Russian people?

Readers, anxious to learn the answer to these questions, will find themselves drawn into Blackshirt’s enthralling adventures in London and the Eastern Zone of Germany—adventures which lead at last to the uncovering of an amazing and sinister plot. They will find Blackshirt as adroit as ever, and will be delighted at the way he finds breath-taking excitement.

The Cereal Murders is the third in Diane Mott Davidson's Goldy Schulz series. It has dropped to $1.99 right now at Kindle and Kobo US.

Quote:
Thanks to her recent adventures in Dying for Chocolate, Goldy Bear, the premier caterer of Aspen Meadow, Colorado, is no stranger to violence--or sudden death. But when she agrees to cater the first College Advisory Dinner for Seniors and Parents at the exclusive Elk Park Preparatory School, the last thing she expects to find at the end of the evening is the battered body of the school valedictorian.

Who could have killed Keith Andrews, and why? Goldy's hungry for some answers--and not just because she found the corpse. Her young son, Arch, a student at Elk Park Prep, has become a target for some not-so-funny pranks, while her eighteen-year-old live-in helper, Julian, has become a prime suspect in the Andrews boy's murder.

As her investigation intensifies, Goldy's anxiety level rises faster than homemade doughnuts. . .as she turns up evidence that suggests that Keith knew more than enough to blow the lid off some very unscholarly secrets. And then, as her search rattles one skeleton too many, Goldy learns a crucial fact: a little knowledge about a killer can be a deadly thing.
