Hello, not sure if this should be posted here but :

1) Got a brand new Kobo Elipsa
2) Used Calibre 5.34 (64bit) on Windows 10 + KoboTouchExtended plugin 3.5.4 to upload ebooks.
3) Books are uploaded OK and under "details" they shows as "KOBO EPUB"

So far so good, but :

- When I try to freehand annotate on a uploaded ebook with the Stylus, that doesn't work and the stylus is treated as a fingertip to highlight the text or turn page.

- When I acquire an ebook from the store, it also is marked as KOBO EPUB, but the freehand annotation works 100%.

I might not be sure 100%, but before using the plugin, the e-books were uploaded es "epub" and the freehand annotation did work.

Could it be the plugin is not optimized yet for this device and fails to let me freehand annotate ?

Thank you for your help and sorry for my english, I'm not a native speaker.

This is expected and is because Kobo does not support annotating with the stylus on sideloaded kepubs. In fact, Kobo does not actually support sideloading kepubs for normal reading. The only mention of doing this is to authors to test their books before uploading them to the Kobo store. There is nothing that this plugin can do about this.

There was a patch available to turn it on for sideloaded kepubs. But, I don't know if it has been updated for newer firmware. I suggest you ask in the Kobo forum about this.

David, thank you, although I had to check what "sideloading" meant in english, everything is clear now, unlike Kobo's Compatibility notes which are not differentiating between a "third party built" kepub and a original ones.
I will now have to understand how to convert all the library to "epub", if I want to retain the ability to freehand annotate, not really knowing what I will miss not using the plugin as I've been installing it under a friend's suggestion which is using a different older model.

I wish a happy new year ( we're shy of 7 hours from 2022 this side of the ocean :- )

Which is expected because as far as Kobo is concerned, they are the only source for kepubs.

The extended driver is for if you want to read as kepub not epub. It doesn't matter what device it is. If you have no idea of the difference between the formats, then just disable or remove the extended driver and you will be using the built-in driver. And that will send books to the device as epub. If you want to check what you will be missing, there are plenty of discussions about the difference between epubs and kepubs in the Kobo forum.

Error when sideloading epub
I encountered an error when sideloading an epub: there is some paragraph that keeps repeating throughout the chapter. Then I decide to try kepubify and everything is ok.

Btw my ebook has a function that when I open it by calibre, and tap the chapter name, it'll switch to translated chapter name. It seems my Kobo doesn't support that.

I attached my ebook if anyone wants to take a look.

I tried it here and I don't see the repeating. What part is repeating for you?

I did open it in the editor and there are some errors. These might cause the problems. One is that there is a repeated line in the manifest in the OPF. I don't think it is causing the problem, but, fixing it is a good idea.

There is also some text in chapter 20 that is not within tags. There are formatting issues at that point, but, I don't see anything else.

There are some other errors with ids that should be fixed. But, again, they don't seem to be causing any problems.

As to the bits that change language, they rely on Javascript to do it. It doesn't look like the kepub reader is executing Javascript. I don't know if it never runs Javascript, or if it needs something more to do it. The book is a epub3, which does allow Javascript, but, I don't know whether Kobo implements that.

I just tried to send the epub to my Kobo, then open by calibre as the screenshot: as you can see, paragraph 1 and 2 is the same, paragraph 3 and 4 is the same.

I just read chapter 1, and not sure if the rest of the book has this issue.

I attached here 2 version: 1 with the issue, 1 converted by Kepubify.

Does this plugin support Libra 2 as well?
Hi, I don't see Libra 2 listed under the supported devices in the README file present in your GitHub repository. Could you please explain why it isn't supported and if it will be supported?

Seems to, with my new Libra2 (has latest FW). At least there is no indicated issues.

The extended driver does not have any code specific to the devices. This is all in the built-in KoboTouch driver. Which means the extended driver supports any Kobo device that the built-in KoboTouch driver supports. And that the Kobo Touch or any Kobo ereader released after it.

I didn't run into any more issues, and sending them manually worked.
Looking at the code, I can see what is happening, and, in one way, I'm not that surprised. But, it usually works and I can't think of a reason that sending multiple books would trigger an error when sending a single book doesn't. I'll have to think about it. Or hope Joel notices and pops in.

The only thing I can think of out of the ordinary is that one of the books I'd accidentally added to the send-to-device list twice. But the Calibre job manager didn't indicate that it was trying to send two copies of it.

Will unchecking 'enable extended Kobo Features' send books as ePub without needing to switch drivers?
