The novelization of The Omen by David Seltzer is $1.99 at Amazon US. Seltzer wrote the screenplay first and then fleshed it out as a novel.

Quote:
Jeremy Thorn and his wife, Katherine, have just welcomed the newest member of their family to the world: their beautiful son Damien. But as the boy grows, so does the terror surrounding him. Fatal accidents, suicides, and unexplained violence seem to follow the Thorns wherever they go—but why? And how can Damien have anything to do with the carnage and bloodshed? He is only a child. But Damien Thorn is like no child on Earth. He bears the mark of the beast. And his time is at hand.

Stephen King's The Bachman Books is a 99p deal in the UK.

amazon.co.uk | Kobo

NOTE: this is the modern release of The Bachman Books, so only contains The Long Walk, Roadwork and The Running Man. If you need Rage as well you'll have to track down an older paperback edition.

The Harvest by Scott Nicholson is $0.99 at Amazon US. This is a fun Invasion of the Body Snatchers type story of people being taken over by an alien parasite. I originally read it when it was released as a paperback by Pinnacle. I've reread it since.

Quote:
An infection that consumes and changes people...

When an alien entity lands in the remote Appalachian Mountains, a clairvoyant psychology professor, a drunken dirt farmer, and a disillusioned tycoon must team up to stop it before the infection spreads.

But with Windshake's annual spring festival coming, the town is full of visitors, unaware of the unnatural menace creeping toward them from the woods...

I have a number of titles by Kelly, but not that one. I purchased it and am currently reading it. I'm 30% into it (it's a long novel, by the way), and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

Recommended, so far.

Well, I finished Twelve Gauge, by Ronald Kelly.

It was a good read, nothing spectacular, but a fine novel that telegraphed a bit too much in the narrative. It wasn't weird enough for my personal taste. I'm being somewhat harsh, but I enjoyed it.

I'm on vacation, so my reading has slowed. I'm still enjoying Undertakers Moon, though Kelly does have a way of clumsily dumping exposition into the dialogue. Sort of like the 'as you know, Bob' of old science fiction.

Also, unlikely coincidence seems to be playing a big part in the story so far.

But like you, I don't mean to come off harsh. I am really enjoying the book. When I'm tired and just want to read one chapter, I'll wind up reading three. And that's as good a compliment as a book can get.

Ghost Story by Peter Straub is $1.99 at Amazon US. Highly recommended.

Quote:
What was the worst thing you’ve ever done?

In the sleepy town of Milburn, New York, four old men gather to tell each other stories—some true, some made-up, all of them frightening. A simple pastime to divert themselves from their quiet lives.

But one story is coming back to haunt them and their small town. A tale of something they did long ago. A wicked mistake. A horrifying accident. And they are about to learn that no one can bury the past forever...

I bought a book the other day that I didn't share, because it is not on sale, but before it gets buried under further purchases, thought I'd highlight it.

Hell Train by Christopher Fowler. It is Fowler's attempt to do a story in the vein of the old Hammer films.

Quote:
Imagine there was a classic supernatural chiller that Hammer Films never made. A grand epic produced at the studio’s peak, which played like a cross between the Dracula and Frankenstein films and Dr Terror’s House Of Horrors...

Four passengers meet on a train journey through Eastern Europe during the First World War, and face a mystery that must be solved if they are to survive.

£1.43 UK. Just nabbed it! Thanks! I've had my eye on this for years. I hope it lives up to it.

Not yet. It's on my TBR after I finish Lonesome Days, Savage Nights and then read 11/22/63.

I don't usually have things this planned out. But Hell Train sounds very good and I'm planning on watching the TV miniseries of 11/22/63 soon, so want to read the book first.

I just got Hulu and HBO Max and there's an embarrassment of riches in there. I watched the first season of Castle Rock and recommend it. The second season seems to be an all new story featuring Annie Wilkes. Then instead of a 3rd season of Castle Rock, Hulu, J.J. Abrams and Stephen King decided to do 11/22/63 instead. And on HBO Max there's a miniseries adaptation of The Outsider.

And that is just the Stephen King related stuff.

I loved the second season but had issues getting into the first. I didn't care much about the Jerusalem's Lot stuff but the backstory with Annie Wilkes was interesting and loved it. Have watched that season twice.

Here's a FREE PDF download of issue 1 of a magazine titled Witch House: Amateur Magazine of Cosmic Horror.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/19Qa...r8DWnLV_5/view

The PDF is quite readable (though small) on my Kindle Oasis and, I would imagine, even better suited to the Kobo Sage.

Issue number 2 will be available later in the year.

(I have no affiliation with the magazine.)
