Hello all, do I find somewhere a complete, detailed setup with pictures for fanficfare for Calibre? I downloaded it for my new pc, but something must be wrong, because this is what I got when try to download from url. Maybe some setup or setting problem, or anybody else got the same ? thanks for the help in advance.

I am not aware of any such document, but I would happily link to it from the official pages if someone were to make one.

That particular story URL doesn't go to an existing story: "Story Not Found - Story is unavailable for reading. (A)". Nothing in FFF is going to fix that.

In general, fanfiction.net does not work 'out of the box' anymore in FFF. They use the CloudFlare service rather aggressively to block automated access.

FFF does have a couple features that can work around it, but they require more steps. See:

Does anyone know how to download a story from blogspot? I am hoping there is an easier way than copying each chapter into a word doc....

Well, it may be easy. Without any sort of link or idea how the story is setup, can't be sure, but try out WebtoEpub plugin (FireFox or Chrome). I use it for a few sites that FFF doesn't cover. It's not perfect, but it is a heck of a lot easier than manually transferring chapters.

FanFicFare handles certain sites that publish multiple books and that are consistent enough in the formats they use for the books that it is worthwhile writing the customization needed for the plugin to work with that site. When you try a URL for one of those sites, FanFicFare recognizes the URL. If it doesn't recognize it, probably that is not a supported site. When the site is an author's custom site for just one or a few of their books, it isn't likely that it will be one of those handled by FanFicFare.

However, you are in luck. The author of The Deathworlders has recently uploaded his book, Dandelion to RoyalRoad, where you can get it using FanFicFare at https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/37532/dandelion

Also, he provides a download as Epub button for the entire The Deathworlders story to date on his web site at the following URL https://deathworlders.com/books/deathworlders/

Once you use that to download the entire story so far, you can find a similar Epub download button on each individual chapter to download just the new chapter as an epub each month. Then you can use the EpubMerge plugin in Calibre to append the new chapter to the complete book.

Did something happen in the past month or 2 I had FFF working to get stuff from ff.net by using web2epub then using the plug in to pull from cache but went on vacation and got back updated stuff and now when I go to do what worked before I am getting

I looked at my browser_cache_path and it seems as there is a new subfolder "Cache_Data"

After adding that to my browser_cache_path in personal.ini
(to have it end with ...\User Data\Default\Cache\Cache_Data)
the download worked again.

Just fyi if someone is also having problems.

Hello, I'll start off by saying that I love this plugin and appreciate it very much. I've wasted what must be months of time over the years manually backing up my favorite stories.

I'm learning more and more about Calibre, your plugin, and programming in general in little bits so please be patient with me. I can't find an answer in the 400+ pages of this thread. lol

The ability for the plugin to update with new chapters sounds amazing, but I have a question about it's logistics. A lot of times on Wattpad an author will "Update" their story by deleting all of the chapters and writing a new one with the reason for why they're removing it. When this registers with the plugin as a new chapter, will it do the same thing to my copy of the story? Will it ignore it? Will it add that chapter onto what I already have?

Unless you use 'overwrite always', it won't delete them. Instead, you'll get a message along the lines of there being less chapters than your saved copy.

There's a wiki page about the different update modes. This section explains how exactly "Update EPUB if New Chapters" works, but I'll also quote it here:

Update EPUB if New Chapters

For new users, this is the default mode. I expect it to be the most commonly used option.

Only available when downloading to EPUB format. FFF reads your existing EPUB file and counts the number of chapters in it. Then it compares the number of chapters available on the site with the number on hand, and if the site has more, initiates a download that will re-use the existing chapters and only fetch the new chapters from the site.

• If used when you do not have an existing EPUB file (but do have an existing book in the library), mode is effectively changed to Overwrite Always for this one download--it won't affect other stories in the same download session.
• if New Chapters is technically a misnomer; it would more accurately be if More Chapters, but it is very difficult to determine more precisely (few sites timestamp individual chapters) and very rare it makes any practical difference.
• Because it only looks at the number of chapters when comparing, FFF will not recognize if an author has replaced chapters.

I have 600+ stories on Wattpad that I'd like to do at once. The way the website loads doesn't show all of them at once, but loads more the farther down the page you go. Because of this, using the "get urls" feature only works for the first 20ish stories. Is there a setting to make it scroll on it's own when it's searching for URLs?

No, FFF's 'Get Story URLs from Web Page' feature only works on one page at a time.

As a rule, I strongly recommend against downloading hundreds of stories at a time.

Doing so causes a lot of traffic to the site, which has been known to get you blocked from many sites. It also is a contributing factor to more and more sites using blocking technologies to prevent automated download entirely. (Probably--we don't know that for certain.)

Doing batches of only a few 10s of stories at a time over a number of days is more recommended.

If you insist doing it anyway, you should set a higher slow_down_sleep_time value than the [wattpad.com] default of 2 seconds.
