That's how it was with me the first day, when I first opened it. It passed later. Or it seems to me. It's like normal now.

I noticed something about physical keys on Kobo Sage.
When I'm on a page, it doesn't detect when I lightly press the key to go to the next page. It detects a little harder pressure and changes the page. However, if I lightly press again within 5 seconds of changing a page, the page changes. After 5 seconds, it is necessary to press a little harder again. In other words, no matter how I press the button for under 5 seconds, it detects it, but after 5 seconds, it is necessary to press harder to change the page. Is this a known feature for Kobo Sage? Is there a setting to turn this feature off? Or is this something unusual? |

The device goes to sleep after ~6s of inactivity when unplugged and not connected to Wi-Fi.
If you can't reproduce that with the device plugged in, that's probably because of this, meaning a weird quirk of how the wakeup on input behaves. |

Any battery improvements with new firmware as it was suggested?

This does not happen when the device I am talking about is plugged in or in sleep mode. Normally, it happens while reading a book. Also I just noticed, it only happens with PDF files. This does not happen when reading EPUB or KEPUB.

I installed Koreader on Kobo Sage. I have observed that it discharges faster (v 4.31).
Has a similar situation occurred? Battery life was better after 4.31 update. However, when Koreader is installed, it seems to be the same as before. |

As I have written in another thread about the abysmal battery: I have returned the sage. Have a look - I have some remarks for Kobo to read.
About the sleepcover: It hurts my hand. There is a bit of sharp plastic sticking out on the backside of the sleepcover. No good. The sage cannot be handholded with one hand only. The screen of the sage is very nice. |

Well, it is a bit heavy.
Centre of gravity is not in the right position. |

But KOReader does not count as it's not using Nickel. So please don't confuse things.

Some might find this interesting, a comparison between my two Sage.
First Kobo Sage from Fnac (on the left), second from Amazon (on the right) : https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...O4bWC4CJQe3u8P The one from Amazon is much better IRL, and IMHO (both with or without comfort light). Without comfort light : Amazon = Paper White VS Kobo = Creamy/Greenish White With comfort light : Amazon = Warm Orange (red is more pronounced, which I consider is a good thing) VS Fnac = Greyish/Greenish Yellow. In both modes, the gradient appears to be quite invisible with the one from Amazon (because more subtle, and not a big difference between two opposite sides). With the one from Fnac, you have to clear your mind to unnotice the major difference between the cold white coming from the button's side, and the creamy white from the other side. So another big win for Amazon's Sage, which is clearly more uniform (probably less obvious with pictures, than it really is). 0/10 for Kobo; still a bad quality control, and getting a good screen is like playing the lottery. EDIT : I've added one more picture, comparing both with my Kindle Voyage. It is interesting to notice that the Voyage is reddish, the Sage from Fnac greenish, and the Sage from Amazon more balanced overall. Another worthwhile point : contrast is almost as good as Voyage's (unbeatable) one. Last edited by JLB14; 04-19-2022 at 10:06 AM. |

Would you have been unhappy with the Fnac Sage if you had received it by itself and not compared it to another Sage?

Actually, the first comparison was in November; between my former Forma, and my Sage (both from Fnac). I was glad that perceived contrast has been improved, dark being truly dark (finally "black enough" letters, IMHO). But disappointed by the creamy background (way worse than on my Forma), especially combined with poor uniformity. So quite mixed feelings, because Sage Carta 1200's screen was supposed to be 100% an improvement (and I had big expectations). Last months, I was dealing with that so-so screen, focusing on the pluses and ignoring the minuses. Then, I've recently purchased that second Sage for my niece, and quite an unexpected and massive gap. Hard to keep the one from Fnac now. Last edited by JLB14; 04-19-2022 at 10:25 AM. |

The Sage screen seems very similar blacks, whites and sharpness to my original Libra or to the Elipsa.
The original H2O (IR with card slot) is a little brighter without internal LEDs than any other reader I have, presumably because there is no capacitive layer. It's slightly lower resolution, but nicer than a PW3 or PW4. The Libra is better on portability, but the Sage is closer to paperback pocket-book/mass-market size. The pen & cover is too expensive and the Libra is better value with no pen, or Elipsa is better value for writing conversion and PDFs than the Sage as it includes the pen & cover. Sage & Elipsa closer to "finished" products with the 4.32.x April 2022 firmware. I rarely ever use the front light on any ereader. I use the 4 x filament stick LED bulbs in the desk & bedside reading lamps. |
