Man, this miserable cold rain is much worse on my arthritic joints than the actual snow and ice.

The storm shift worked for us, too. We got more rain and a lot less snow. After the storm passed we had a very sunny, but cold, day.

Currently 29 degrees F. and it will go down to 16 in the morning. I am in DAY 2 of no heat. I emailed the managing agent (I rent in a walkup building) and they say a part will be here tomorrow to fix the boiler. I hope that will be the end of this emergency. I am on the sofa with two blankets and using a heating pad occasionally. Haven't been doing anything active. 58 degrees F. inside.
The snow that was predicted for this morning was a dud. Good. |

Zero degrees here. Not so 'white over' as the past few days, but a brisk feeking in the air. It's pleasant if walking, but you would not want to loiter!

Since we moved house in September, we had not used the gas logs at all. The cats had never seen a fireplace (we had the last one blocked by a shelf in the old house because it was wood burning and we would not risk that).
The new house has a fully glass-encased set of gas logs though. We flipped them on during the ice last week for the first time. The case FELL IN LOVE. They will not come and sit in front of it and wait for me to turn it on. Might be doing so again this evening... |

Cats are little heat seeking missiles ... I often use a space heater in the living room (have some dead spots that chill out) and both cats glue themselves to it.
Very dry cold outside now - slid down the driveway (45 degree slope) to the mailbox and back up safely - no black ice. |

I can relate to that. I have three cats that do the same thing. On really cold days, I turn on a space heater. It's quite funny to see them jockeying for position in front of that heater. Otherwise, they park themselves in front of the central heating vents. They each have their favorite vent.

Very cold here today - 16 F. this afternoon, then 20 in the evening. Now 18 at 12:30 AM. It was sunny.
Work was done on the boiler downstairs for a long time. They left at about 7:30 and two hours later heat started to come up, but not enough yet. Three hours later and it is still only 57 inside. It was 52 inside earlier in the day. I am still using a heating pad for my hands. I will see how it is when I wake up and then be in touch with the super. Shared notes with neighbors and one on my floor says the same about it still being too cold. It will continue to be very cold through Tuesday when it may go up to 39, but then back to the teens on Wednesday. My empathy for those of you in North Carolina who got hit with snow/ice, etc. on Friday. |

Cool, dry but with a dampish feel in the air (if that makes sense!) Tenperature hovering around zero to plus one degree.
